Happy almost summer, Micekateers! E3 is launching with announcements all over, big things are happening at the movies, and theme parks are heating up. Here’s a little bit of news:

Fab Goes Legit

It’s no secret that I get around. I write and photograph for Jim Hill Media and my photos even occasionally appear in Jim’s Huffington Post articles. I sometimes remember when I’m invited to the DIS Unplugged Disneyland version podcast, and I’ve been known to crash a couple of Paul Barrie’s Window to the Magic Kungaloosh! gatherings. Heck, I might even get that Pink Monorail running again. Thanks to longtime friend of MiceChat Mark Eades, I now have a credit at The Orange County Register online under my belt. It’s a guide to Knott’s Berry Farm live entertainment.

You’ll Lava the Short, Too

Noe, Alice and I got a sneak preview of Inside Out this past Saturday, so I did receive something free – the screening and parking only. My honest opinion, no spoilers: I loved it. It won’t fit as easily into Cranium Command as I thought it might, but I still think it will be a good fit for the Wonders of Life Building if they can find the budget. And if we all go see it, it just might. And seriously, I will pay for a ticket and see it again when it opens, because it’s really, really good. Rotten Tomatoes has it at 100% fresh and they’re not kidding.

After it opens, I look forward to going over story points and character stuff with friends, but for now, I’m sitting on it. Others who have seen it said “bring tissues”, but it didn’t make me cry. “Lava”, the short before it, did. A lot. Here’s a little clip from Pixar:

Dustin Hoffman Never Looked Better

Last Saturday night, we were in attendance at LACO @ the movies celebrates Walt Disney Animation, and got to see two newly-restored Oswald cartoons, “Poor Papa” and “Africa After Dark”. Definitely products of their time, they were lovingly and beautifully restored by Dave Bossert and his team and Walt Disney Feature Animation and they looked fantastic. Mike Watters’ new scores were delightful and seemed as if they were from the late twenties. The whole show was fantastic. At one point, honorary chair Dustin Hoffman was called on to the stage. The curtain parted, and there stood – Oswald! He was later available for photos in the lobby. Watters and the orchestra finished to cheers and a long standing ovation. The event raised nearly a quarter of a million dollars for the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, one of our city’s gems.

Take Dad to the Barn

This Fathers’ Day, June 21, marks the opening of a brand-new exhibit at Walt’s Barn in Griffith Park. “The Trains of Disneyland: 60 Years of Magical Railroading” is all about, you guessed it, Disneyland’s unique and wonderful trains. On opening day, there will be a celebration with special guests like “Disneylanders” author Kate Abbott and artist Paul Lopez, who will be signing barn-exclusive prints of his painting “A Painted Morning”, a tribute to one of my favorite attractions in Yesterland, Mine Train Through Nature’s Wonderland. Our own Bob Gurr, Golden Age Imagineer, will be there to sign the prints, and proceeds will go to the Carolwood Pacific Historical Society’s restoration efforts. I love them. The Barn will be open from 11:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. More information is available on the Barn’s Facebook page, www.Facebook.com/WaltDisneysBarn .
