That’s Not Frozen Fever

Some unintended excitement came to the future home of Anna, Elsa and their friends in the form of a small fire yesterday at Epcot. The fire started in a construction area for the new Frozen Ever After attraction, and both Reedy Creek and Orange County Fire Rescue were called to the scene at 4:20PM. (No.) The fire was extinguished in minutes with no damage to any part of the structure nor any injuries, according to a Disney spokesperson later yesterday.

Guests were evacuated from the entire area, including restaurants and shops as a precaution, but were allowed to return shortly after the area was determined to be completely safe.

“Infiniteers”. I love that.

Did anyone here not hear about the Apple TV/Disney Infinity announcement yesterday? OK, Disney Infinity is going to work with Apple TV. Remember, Disney Infinity is not a game, it’s a platform in and of itself, so this was never off the table. But yep, I’m totally surprised.

JOHN VIGNOCCHI, VICE PRESIDENT, PRODUCTION, DISNEY INFINITY

Hey Infiniteers!

John Vignocchi here with a quick update on an announcement you might have heard about earlier today…

I’m happy to share that the full Disney Infinity 3.0 Edition console experience will be available on the new Apple TV later this year. The game will be available through a special Apple TV starter pack, with a similar configuration to the one offered for consoles, including the Anakin Skywalker and Ahsoka Tano figures, a new “MFi” controller, and a wireless Disney Infinity 3.0 bluetooth base!  We’ll have additional details on this starter pack to share soon.

We are honored to have worked closely with Apple over the past few months to deliver a console–quality experience for this exciting new device. We can’t wait for fans — old and new — to give it a try when it releases later this year.”

It sure would be great if we could track down some samples for reader giveaways. . . hint, hint . . .  (I can be reached at [email protected]).

According to the Wall Street Journal, a Disney spokesperson (how Telephone can this get?) says that Infinity can be played via the sleek Apple TV remote or a separate Disney Infinity remote (sold separately).

This reminds me of a comment I got Tuesday, a day of damn good comments. This was by ChrisNJ:

“Ever consider doing a new Disney Infinity article that focuses on Disney parks items in the game’s Toy Box mode?”

No, but it’s a good idea, and I’m going to steal it. Thanks, Chris! However, when Disney Infinity’s first round of figures were unveiled, we were pretty bummed that there were no characters from the theme parks. My husband Noe only got the first two done, but we thought about more. Remy, Albert, Shhiriki Utundu, Duffy even. DUFFY DEATH PUNCH! would be a thing, and it would be beautiful.

More Disney for More Devices

When I got Disney Movies Anywhere (aka DMA), I got Wreck-It Ralph free. It’s great for times I don’t have Internet, or if I need to watch Disney movies for research. As of today, MARVEL’S AVENGERS: AGE OF ULTRON is available on Digital HD with the bonus feature “Connecting the Universe,” exclusively on Disney Movies Anywhere.

Now you can get to even more Disney magic, marvels and history because DMA’s digital collections of Disney, Disney•Pixar, Marvel and Star Wars movies are now available through two new retail partners, Amazon Video and Microsoft Movies & TV. It is already available via iTunes, Google Play, and Walmart’s VUDU, and will add Roku and Android TV next week, launching on September 15, with the release of Disney’s live action Cinderella.

“We’re thrilled to bring these new partners to Disney Movies Anywhere, expanding its reach into the living room and beyond with an unprecedented Disney experience that is both easy and fun,” said Janice Marinelli, President, Disney/ABC Home Entertainment & Television Distribution. “As consumers seek to build their digital libraries and protect their purchases for the long term, Disney Movies Anywhere makes it easier than ever to buy once and watch anywhere.”

In celebration of this partner launch, for a limited time Disney Movies Anywhere is offering a free digital copy of Disney•Pixar’s Monsters, Inc. to new and existing members who connect an iTunes, Amazon Video, VUDU, Microsoft Movies & TV or Google Play account for the first time.

A Whole New Frozen World

Sweet Shawn Slater let us know on the Disney Parks Blog yesterday that Aladdin: A Musical Spectacular is flying off into the sunset, but will be replaced in 2016 by a new Frozen musical helmed by Imagineer Dana Harrel, Portfolio Creative Entertainment Executive, Walt Disney Imagineering. Portfolio? Anyway, la Harrel is the person responsible for bringing Tangled to the Disney Cruise Line, so not only am I not worried about this, I’m actually looking forward to it.

Aladdin had a great run and is now a gigantic hit on Broadway; I don’t think that would have happened without A:AMS. I’ll still see my favorite Jasmine, Teresa Castillo, as Sabrina on General Hospital, and I’ll try to keep you apprised of the new roles and adventures for the rest of the cast. What really made me happy was that Slater didn’t just brush the elder show aside, but devoted the lion’s share of his writing to honoring it, instead of just “Bye Felicia, Olaf Olaf Olaf Olaf Olaf!” Class act.

The Way to My Heart is Through My Porthole

I’ve become a fan of animator/artist/writer/themed entertainment concept guru Cleve Nettles lately. Like since Dusty showed me his work this week. He’s big into Disney villains and Disney nostalgia. Like, right up my alley Disney nostalgia.

Long Time No Sea
Seriously. He has my number.

He’s got stuff up at Society6 right now, and no, I do not get a cut of the sales. It’s just really good and Halloween is coming up. I mean, that Friend From the Other Side! Are you ready? Awwww!

If you have cool stuff and I like it, I will write about it, because I think there should be more cool stuff on the planet. So if you do, email me at [email protected] and tell me about your cool stuff.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend. On Tuesday, I’m going to post a really cool story about Didier Ghez, the real Hogarth, and a long-lost diary! Thanks as always for your emails, tweets @PinkMonorail, emails, and support through Square and Patreon. If you want to support Fab News, just click on the banners below.
