Rebel, Rebel

Sarah Michelle Gellar, whom I loved as Kendall Hart in All My Children, will be playing the Seventh Sister (Sithster?) a cunning, evil Inquisitor who wields a wicked lightsaber. She’ll be talking about it at New York Comic-Con, but we get a sneak peek of what she has to say about it first:

If you ARE going to be at NYCC, here’s some scheduling information:

THURSDAY, OCTOBER 8 – STAR WARS REBELS at NYCC

1:30 PM – 2:30 PM:  “Star Wars Rebels” Panel (Location: Empire Stage)
*This event is open to all NYCC attendees.  Seating is on a first-come, first-seated basis.

5:30 PM – 6:30 PM: “Star Wars Rebels” Screening (Location: Empire Stage)
*This screening is open to all NYCC attendees.  Seating is on a first-come, first-seated basis.

Seventh-Sister

…and she’s just the beginning. Season two of this runaway hit will bring in Clone Troopers beginning Wednesday, October 14th at 9:30PM ET/PT on Disney XD.

In “Star Wars Rebels” Season Two, past lives will be revealed and the destiny of our heroes will be changed forever.  The transformative new season resumes with Imperial oppression on Lothal growing stronger and the rebels seeking out new allies and additional resources to sustain their fight against the evil Empire. With the help of Ahsoka Tano, the crew of the Ghost enlists some old friends: ex-clone troopers who fought in the Clone Wars. As the rebels grow in number, so do their enemies. New Inquisitors are dispatched by Darth Vader and sent to crush any threat of rebellion. Through dangerous rescue missions, thrilling space chases, and spectacular lightsaber duels – the bond of our rebel crew will be put to the test like never before.

Spooky Fun for Kids

My guide to Knott’s Spooky Farm went up at ocregister.com this past weekend. If you have little ones and are planning on going on an October weekend for the free (or almost free) kids’ activities, it’s worth a look, if I do say so myself. We had a look this past Saturday. I took a couple of kids with me: my husband Noe and his older brother Juan.

Upon entry to the park, kids get a cute little treat bag, free. Inside is a map/program of events

The entire park was spooktacularly decorated for the season

, Fab News: Starry, Spooky, Spectacular

The lines to get candy were long, and there wasn’t much shade until you got inside Ghost Town – then, there was plenty.

, Fab News: Starry, Spooky, Spectacular

This is the barber. He’s also a werewolf. As you can see, the Spooky denizens of Ghost Town are much more gentle in appearance than the Scary ones. There was also a mailman, a witch and several others, but this fella was by far the coolest.

, Fab News: Starry, Spooky, Spectacular

Kids would go up to the door (each one was light blue and themed differently) and they could ring the doorbells, which made silly, scary sounds, and get a fun-size candy from someone who would then put a mark on their map.

This was about an hour after the park opened.

, Fab News: Starry, Spooky, Spectacular

The postman knows if you’re smart,  you’ll ring the bell to get some candy. To whom is that letter in the mail slot addressed?

, Fab News: Starry, Spooky, Spectacular

A picture not many other people than Noe could get.

, Fab News: Starry, Spooky, Spectacular

I sure hope they bring something good to where the Haunted Shack used to be.

, Fab News: Starry, Spooky, Spectacular

There’s so much history in that spot, and so much possibility.

, Fab News: Starry, Spooky, Spectacular

They even manage to look creepy in the sunlight.

, Fab News: Starry, Spooky, Spectacular

Lots of kids in the Bug House, as Alice called it when she was little.

, Fab News: Starry, Spooky, Spectacular

Remember, says the cranky old woman, when you could go to a theme park and learn something instead of going on a three minute thrill ride? Look at those kids’ (and adults’) faces. This is what they’ll remember.

In Fiesta Village, we found the Spooky Hollow Maze, which was a maze without walls – it was almost all hay bales, so little ones would rarely have a chance to lose sight of the people they were with.

, Fab News: Starry, Spooky, Spectacular

There were wide-open spaces that welcomed unhurried play.

, Fab News: Starry, Spooky, Spectacular

Look, Linus! It’s the Great Pumpkin!

, Fab News: Starry, Spooky, Spectacular

Linus is busy with his new crow friend, who is adorable (as is my brother-in-law)

, Fab News: Starry, Spooky, Spectacular

More free play and some rare shade

, Fab News: Starry, Spooky, Spectacular

This part is pretty short. I don’t think it will make anyone dizzy or sick. It’s just fun.

, Fab News: Starry, Spooky, Spectacular

It’s called Spooky Hollow, so you’ll see The Headless Horseman. I know, I know. But if they had called it Sleepy Hollow they would have had to put it indoors, line it with mats, play soothing music and give everyone a blankie.

, Fab News: Starry, Spooky, Spectacular

I like this winsome fellow.

, Fab News: Starry, Spooky, Spectacular

At the end is a big area with lots and lots of jack o-lanterns of different sizes, shapes and colors. Families are encouraged to pose for photos together to remember the day. There were lots of Knott’s staff in violet shirts, khakis and blue caps taking people’s photos for them. Nice touch!

, Fab News: Starry, Spooky, Spectacular

You can also buy a pie pumpkin for 5.00 and decorate it at a table filled with art supplies.

, Fab News: Starry, Spooky, Spectacular

We missed having Alice with us, but she was working on her comic book that day. Deadlines before fun. I will let you know when it hits the shelves. I did, however, send her a photo of this banner with a text: “‘Thinking of you.” because I am a terrible, awful mother. She’s 21, by the way.

, Fab News: Starry, Spooky, Spectacular

Inside the Boardwalk Ballroom, just behind this banner (the far-right doors; the rest of the ballroom is being used for a Haunt maze) is the Monster Masquerade Ball, where kids can decorate masks

, Fab News: Starry, Spooky, Spectacular

It’s not a costume. It’s a stroller. This is Darth Will and his gorgeous offspring Zoe. He built it for her because he is an Odin-status dad.

, Fab News: Starry, Spooky, Spectacular

There was also karaoke. This was a rare moment. The rest of the time, children were singing spooky Halloween tunes like “‘Do You Want to Build a Snowman?”

, Fab News: Starry, Spooky, Spectacular

“The Monsters Are Coming, Charlie Brown!” is the new Peanuts stage show in Camp Snoopy. It’s about a Halloween party and there’s a great gag with some…thing on the snack table, and a very, very surprising song for the show’s finale.

, Fab News: Starry, Spooky, Spectacular

The Peanuts Gang in their costumes are adorable.

, Fab News: Starry, Spooky, Spectacular

It’s a great thing for kids. If you have kids, take them to Knott’s to do this. If you’re an adult, I don’t know about making a special trip for this. I love to go to Knott’s during the day in the season to admire all the decor. I do love that barber. I think if they can do something about the lines and the shade, it will be perfect for the under-twelve set.

And if you want a really great deal on a season pass, Knott’s is promoting 9 payments of just $9 each. I won’t get into the debate about another park’s recent price increase, but this is a deal the whole family can love . . . and afford!
