June 16th will be the magic day for Disney’s newest theme park, Shanghai Disneyland. The much anticipated Chinese park is long overdue and way over budget, but the pain should all be worth it as Disney attempts to penetrate the world’s 2nd largest economy. Anything that helps Disney sell Star Wars, Marvel, Pirates and Princess merchandise and movie tickets will go straight to Disney’s bottom line and make shareholders very happy.

Disney will have to bend the wind and time itself to get everything open in time for June 16th. And new theme parks tend to suffer from a lack of attractions as they struggle to find their footing and build out the missing elements. There’s also the issue of the castle. The Disney Parks Blog posted the following image of the Shanghai Disneyland Castle. While it’s clearly not complete, they were obviously proud enough to post it and tempt world criticism. While the castle certainly lives up to it’s claims of being Disney’s “Largest,” not all will agree that it’s also lovely. There’s a strange mishmash of visual styles which create a breathtaking visual cacophony. Some will love it, others will hate it. It’s a castle that’s clearly not in the running for the Miss Universe Pageant. But, perhaps, it’s something the Chinese will embrace.

Comments on our Facebook page have been quite interesting. We’d love to hear your thoughts as well, both on the opening of the park and its signature castle:

A date has finally been set for the opening of Shanghai Disneyland – June 16, 2016. What do you think of that monster castle? Be honest.
