MiceChat RoundUpCrew!
Happy Lunar New Year, it’s the year of the Monkey! Theme Parks on both coasts are celebrating this festive occasion with limited time events and of course special food and menu additions. Though the official celebration lasts until the middle of February, most theme parks hosted their in-park events this past weekend alone. Both Dateline Disneyland and In the Parks have great pictorial guides to the weekend celebrations at Disneyland resort and Universal Studios: Hollywood. One big difference with the Chinese New Year and Lunar celebration versus the traditional end of year sequined hats/countdowns, it’s all about family and close friends gathering together. We are still basking in the glow of the recent Micechat anniversary celebration and gathering.

If you weren’t able to participate or want to see your favorite moments both MiceChat Roundup and Fab News have chronicled all the MiceChat Anniversary weekend fun! We wish you good fortune, luck and a happy year of the Monkey!

Disney Avenue Podcast: It’s the most wonderful time of year here on the Disney Avenue Podcast and boy, what an amazing show we have in store for you. As many of you know, Christmas and Disney go hand in hand. I’ve yet to experience a Christmas display or “Spectacle” anywhere on earth that can top Disney. The beautiful lights and decorations along Main Street, the beauty of Cinderella Castle decked out in millions of lights and, of course, that little light show over in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, the truly breathtaking Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights.

Mousetalgia! This shows discusses “Don DeFore’s Silver Banjo Barbecue,” which was located in Disneyland from 1957 through 1961. We learn about Ron’s father Don, who, as an innovative live television broadcaster, caught Walt Disney’s attention and became close to Walt, eventually opening his own barbecue restaurant in Frontierland at Disneyland. Ron talks about the restaurant as well as other stories about growing up with a backstage key to Walt’s Magic Kingdom, including riding down Main Street in Autopia cars, becoming a Flying Saucer test dummy, sneaking around the Jungle Cruise, and riding in a parade with Walt Disney. Then, we welcome Disney Legend Alice Davis back to Mousetalgia to remember Nelbert Chouinard, founder of the Chouinard Art Institute, which was a critical institution to the Disney Studio during animation’s earliest days. Also – restoring a Tiki Bird, constructing a Deagostini Disneyland model, “Disney”-scented candles, and more.

The Sweep Spot: In this episode we take a look at an area of Disneyland that is no longer there. . . the Big Thunder Ranch. This rustic area, which opened in 1986, hosted a petting zoo, a cabin, a farm, an arena, restaurant, restrooms, and more over the years. For many this was a favorite place to eat, or maybe a quiet place to sit, or a place to see a show. Disneyland is a place that has always had changes, and I know many of us have great memories of attractions of the past, or places like Big Thunder Ranch. So in this episode we talk about the history of the Ranch. Plus, we have the latest in the Disneyland Resort news and current events.
