Are you ready to pay up to $20 more for a one day ticket to the Disney Parks? Beginning Sunday, February 28th, a brand new pricing scheme will hit the parks in Anaheim and Orlando. As we’ve mentioned here over the last year, Disney has been kicking around the idea of demand-based pricing to help level out the overcrowding in the parks. Under the flexible new demand-based pricing, low attendance days will see a small price decrease of $4 from the previous one day Disneyland price of $99. Regular days will see a price increase of $6 to $105/day and peak traffic days will increase to $119 for an adult ticket.
Previous Price for a 1 Day/1 Park adult ticket – $99
New Price for a 1 Day/1 Park adult ticket: Value $95, Regular $105, Peak $119
It is expected that approximately 30% of the calendar year will be deemed “Value,” with the remaining 70% of the year seeing pricing increases at the “Regular” and “Peak” levels.
Universal Studios has recently adopted a similar policy in advance of the opening of their new Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Hollywood.
How will the increases impact you and your family? Do you think that a 20% increase on peak days will do much to mitigate Disneyland’s overcrowding problem? Or, will increased prices simply make guests more upset that they paid top dollar to visit a packed park on “Peak” days? With prices now much higher on average than this time last year, should Disney begin setting park capacity at more comfortable levels and block admission once those levels are reached?
