The inaugural 2016 schedule of eight Star Wars Day at Sea theme cruises continues to set sail through April onboard the Disney Fantasy, but that hasn’t stopped the Disney Cruise Line from extending the program into 2017. In fact, next year Star Wars will be showcased on nearly twice as many sailings – 15 in total – newly alternating between eastern and western Caribbean itineraries.

“Our guests keep telling us that Star Wars Day at Sea is an experience they’ll never forget, that it’s a thrill of intergalactic proportions,” said Karl L. Holz, president of Disney Cruise Line. “In response to guest demand, we’re pleased to create even more Star Wars memories aboard the Disney Fantasy in 2017 with an expanded schedule of these special sailings. Clearly, the Force is alive and well on the high seas!”

The fun franchise programming I had the great privilege of experiencing firsthand will return with screenings not just of the now seven filmic episodes but also the new Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, releasing on December 16, 2016. Character meet-and-greets and family-friedly interactions with passengers will again permeate all corners of the ship as guest cosplay is celebrated centrally in the atrium.

Jedi Training: Trials of the Temple will also be reprised onboard to invite Padawans to the stage to overcome their fears and duel Darth Vader while tamer Star Wars arts and crafts will also be available. Meanwhile, trivia challenges will crown ultimate fans, and themed dining and drinks will satiate a tauntaun-sized appetite.

Of course, exclusive merchandise, from collectibles to apparel, will be on sale, and the evening will draw to a close with a galactic dance party and climactic fireworks display set to the iconic John Williams’ score and populated by the day’s company of Star Wars characters.
