The Haunted Mansion Show Episode 45: A Hatbox Full of Phantom Thoughts
In this edition of “The Haunted Mansion Show,” the Hatbox Ghost returns with more talk about the Phantom Manor. We know what you’re thinking: “Why is he still talking about Phantom Manor when the Ghost Host himself banned the name from Gracey Manor?” Ol’ Hattie is a rather mischievous one, and if there’s one thing you should do, it’s to never make promises he can’t keep.
Welcome to another exciting episode of the Disney Avenue Podcast. For our very first show of 2016, we are joined by R.J. and Suzanne Ogren who are two former Walt Disney World cast members. They are about to blow you away with some amazing stories from their incredible careers working at the vacation kingdom. R.J. painted Animatronic figures and “plussed” attractions. Suzanne drove monorails, marched in parades, and entertained as Sleepy the dwarf, among other things. Together, the Ogren’s brought their unique skills to Walt Disney World’s Magic Kingdom during its formative years.
Mousetalgia! This week, Team Mousetalgia discusses Bambi, one of Time Magazine’s “Top 25 Horror Films,” and we look at the life of Disney Legend Tyrus Wong. Join us and learn about the animation for the film, take a brief look at the production of Bambi, and listen to our talk with Academy Award-winning animator and historian John Canemaker about Wong. We learn about Tyrus’s childhood and early influences, his education and interest in art history both European and Asian, and how his work was used during his short time at the Walt Disney Studios. Next, Mousetalgia helps a listener with a question about taking a three year old to Disneyland for a birthday. What can she do to make the trip extra special for her child? Also, since celebrity has taken over our political discourse, we wonder which Disney notables might make a good President. Plus – enjoying Disneyland with senior citizens; a listener reports on a Marty Sklar event – and more!
The Sweep Spot: In this episode we have the latest in Disneyland Resort current events. Our main segment features a former Disneyland Custodian, Robert Diaz. Robert worked with both Ken and I. He was a Lead, General Lead, Office Clerk, and worked in scheduling for Custodial. This chat is kind of like sitting at Trader Sams and listening in on some former Disneyland cast members talking old times. Enjoy!

Disneyland’s backstage disappears to make room for Star Wars expansion
Disneyland is rapidly clearing large areas of its backstage to make way for its new 14-acre Star Wars-themed expansion, which is expected to officially break ground sometime this month. The work has significantly ramped up since last week, with several buildings now completely removed and more and more of Frontierland‘s backwoods cleared. The speedy pace is indicative of Disney’s desire to get the massive new land built and open as soon as possible to compete with Universal Hollywood‘s newly-opened Wizarding World of Harry Potter, which is expected to get the much-celebrated Diagon Alley expansion very soon.
