We wanted to clue you in to a largely unpublicized Earth Day event this weekend at the Disneyland Resort. Since it’s just a short little news bit, we have a couple additional items for you as well. We hope you all have a great Earth Day.

Earth Day Butterfly Release At Disneyland Hotel

Disneyland Hotel will be hosting a very special Earth Day event on Saturday. Beginning at 10am, guests will be able to view a butterfly exhibit on the Frontier Tower lawn.  At approximately 1:30, guests will be invited to capture the butterflies (safely in containers) and will release them at 2pm.

The owner of SkyRiver Butterflies will be on hand to explain how to safely capture the butterflies as well as their important role in the ecosystem.

Security Is Growing

Over the past couple weeks the security lines at the Disneyland Resort have been stretching as more guests are being funneled through metal detectors. A couple of the lines are feeding from the bag check straight into the detectors, with no visible “randomness” to the process. As a result, the backup of guests in Downtown Disney can stretch all the way to Starbucks at times. Plan accordingly!

Universal Studios Hollywood recently built a permanent facility for the metal detectors, which queues all guests up into a single file switchback line and quickly sends them to the next available security officer and detector. Is it time for Disney to figure out their seemingly temporary looking security/bag-check system?

Bathrooms of Tomorrow?

Going to Hyperspace Mountain at rope drop (as we all do), the sound of jackhammers was filling the air this week. Walls were up around the bathrooms at Space Mountain’s exit along with a sign explaining that the restrooms were closed for expansion. Are they expanding into the space next to Starcade that was used for the Tomorrowland exhibit? That’s where the sound was coming from.

Thanks for reading folks. We hope you have a great Earth Day. If you are able to make it to the butterfly release at the Disneyland Hotel, take some photos and share them with us. It sounds like a really lovely ceremony.
