Universal Orlando is pulling triple duty at the moment as they are performing two shows at once.  In the day, they are an operating theme park, at night they are a horrifying Halloween experience, and around the clock they are in the middle of the Studios park’s biggest expansion since it opened.  Currently there are two major projects happening in different sections, the yet to be announced Transformers ride and the major expansion of Harry Potter. That’s not to mention the recent completion of the brand new midway games in front of The Simpsons: The Ride.  Add to all of this the day operations for regular park guests and then the Halloween Horror Nights operations in the evening and you have controlled chaos.  Let’s see how they are doing.

Vertical construction has begun to peek past the tops of the construction walls.  This has lead to sometimes ridiculous denials or silence on the part of employees near the area that insist that nothing is going on.  Regardless we can assure you that there is plenty happening around the clock.  Night time crews can be spotted on a regular basis welding, working, operating the crane, all at a frantic pace.

Two major milestones have occurred recently in regards to the Harry Potter expansion.  The work along the lagoon side of the project was completed for the most part and water was slowly allowed to return to the banks.

We can also report that vertical construction is totally visible at the site of the new land.

Inside Universal’s Islands of Adventure, more work is being done to prep the area for the addition of the Hogwart’s Express.

Universal had new video screen menu boards installed.  It’s a nice touch that they actually fit in with the theme.

Cowabunga dudes! The brand new midway games in front of The Simpsons the Ride have finally opened after what seemed like a very long construction process.  We have to say that we were actually pretty impressed with the offerings (at least as much as we can be for theme park skill games).  On par with what Disney did inside Disney California Adventure’s Paradise Pier, The Simpsons Midway games are the usual carnival fare, but built with a clever Simpsons twist and a sturdy design.

Uh-oh. It appears that Cinnabon has found a new way into your stomach.  And you thought Halloween Horror Nights was scary?

That about wraps things up for us this week from the Orlando Parkhopper at the Universal Orlando Resort.
