Greetings, my Fabanistas! So much to talk about! What do you want to see at the D23 EXPO? What makes a hero heroic? What are you going to bid for at the Ryman Arts Fundraiser? Let me know in the comments below, and check out my Sensei’s Photoshop tricks while you’re at it.

Amazing Exclusives for D23 Members!

I keep telling you about how wonderful D23, The club for the fan in all of us, is. And that is such the cute slogan. So, every once in a while they open up and let non-members peek in to see what members get to see. Like NOW:

These links will work through July 9, 2016 – but it’s FREE to join D23 with a general membership, so why not join and see this fantastic content every day of the year? Gold and Family are not that bad, and you do get a lot of bang for your buck, honestly. Go see for yourself. I don’t get anything if you join. I’m just recommending it because it’s a really good thing to do if you’re a Disney fan – or a Star Wars or Marvel fan, now, too. Okay, check the three stories below:

Tickets for D23 EXPO 2017: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event
Go on Sale Thursday, July 14, 2016

BURBANK, Calif. – July 6, 2016 – On Thursday, July 14, at 10 a.m. PT,

Just call in sick to work if you don’t live in Hawaii.

D23: The Official Disney Fan Club will begin selling tickets for the next D23 Expo, which will take place July 14–16, 2017, at the Anaheim Convention Center.

I was disappointed that they’re not extending it any. An extra day and preview night would be very nice, especially now with the amazing tapestry of fandoms that the Marvel and Lucasfilm acquisitions have provided.  We want MORE D23 EXPO, not less. D23 EXPO is a Good Thing. More time would help with the insane lines, give more people time to see things that they get frustrated about missing time after time, and give friends more time to see each other, other than passing in the halls. We’d also have more time for panels from LEGO about games and movies, The 501st Legion, Square-Enix, EA, workshops with Leslie Kay (Disneybounding Inventor), and Justin Jorgenson (Dapper Day founder); Animated show voice panels! Darkwing Duck! Teen stuff, toon stuff, geek stuff, all the stuff!  How about some simulcasts, at least?

The largest Disney fan event in the world, D23 Expo celebrates all the wonderful worlds of Disney entertainment, uniting all parts of The Walt Disney Company under one roof, including The Walt Disney Studios (including Marvel, Pixar, and Lucasfilm); Walt Disney Parks and Resorts; Disney Consumer Products and Interactive Media; and Media Networks (including ABC, Disney Channel, and Radio Disney). D23 Expo 2017 marks the fifth biennial event held in Anaheim.

They should totally rent out Tomorrowland for a night.
(“Fab! Someone else needs a turn with Kylo Ren!” Fab: “NO!”)

Once again the Expo will celebrate the past, present, and future of Disney with live events, celebrity appearances, panels, presentations, sneak peeks, and immersive experiences. D23 Expo 2017 marks the return of fan favorites, including the Disney Legends Awards Ceremony, honoring the talented men and women who have made indelible contributions to the Disney legacy; an exhibit from the Walt Disney Archives, which spotlights costumes, props, and set pieces from Disney’s rich history; and the Mousequerade costume contest.

And you CAN be completely entertained without leaving the show floor; if you are a regular reader, you know this. You know you can take just a few steps in, plant yourself, and be entertained ALL DAY LONG.

Tickets for D23 Expo 2017 will be available at a discounted price for a limited time. From July 14–December 31, 2016, tickets are $67 for a one-day adult admission and $46 for children 3–12. Tickets for members of D23: The Official Disney Fan Club are $57 for a one-day adult admission and $41 for children. Multi-day money-saving tickets are also available. D23 Members can save as much as $296 off the price of admission, based on the purchase of four three-day tickets at the D23 Member rate. For more information on tickets and the ticket pricing structure for members and general admission, visit D23Expo.com.

Seriously, you do NOT want to miss this. I say this, knowing that you will be one more elbow in my ribs, but my conscience will not let me keep another Disney/Marvel/Star Wars fan from experiencing the epic awesomeness that is – if you are patient, plan ahead, don’t set your hopes on seeing everything, and wear comfortable walking shoes – The D23 EXPO. It is magnificent and overwhelming and they pack way too much into way too small of a time frame and I love it love it love it.

To celebrate the launch of ticket sales, D23 will be streaming select presentations from D23 Expo 2015 at D23Expo.com from Wednesday, July 13, through Sunday, July 17. Presentations include “Once Upon a Time: An Evening with Snow White & the Evil Queen” (featuring Ginnifer Goodwin and Lana Parilla), “A Goofy Movie 20th Anniversary Celebration!” (including stars Bill Farmer, Jason Marsden, and Jim Cummings), “Disneyland: Fond Memories of the Past” (with Walt Disney Archives Director Becky Cline), and “In Conversation with the Filmmakers and the Emotions Behind Inside Out” (featuring Pete Docter, Jonas Rivera, and a special appearance by Sadness herself, Phyllis Smith).

D23 Expo 2017 will showcase all of the latest stars in the Disney universe. In 2015, celebrity appearances included Johnny Depp, Harrison Ford, Ellen DeGeneres, Chris Evans, Lupita Nyong’o, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, and Dwayne Johnson. The event also featured performances by Ne-Yo, Sabrina Carpenter, the cast of Teen Beach 2, and stars of Disney’s shows on Broadway. Additionally, Disney executives and creative talent came together to deliver special presentations, announcements, and experiences to Disney fans throughout the three-day extravaganza.

If you didn’t go,watch them. Yeah, noooow you wanna go, don’t you?

So, now we talk Sorcerer Packages. I can’t, but maybe you can. You have to have extremely fast fingers and I mean EXTREMELY FAST to get these. They sell out in half of a nanosecond and I am not exaggerating at all. Plus ones are available, so if you can’t think of anyone, I’ll send Noe with you. I’ll probably be working the D23 EXPO as a reporter unless Dusty has fired me for giving him sass. I do.

A limited number of VIP Sorcerer Packages for D23 Expo 2017 will be available. The Sorcerer Package includes:

  • Three-day admission ticket and commemorative Sorcerer credential
  • Reserved seating at presentations in Hall D23, Stage 23, and Stage 28

  • Pre-Expo tour of select exhibits including Treasures of the Walt Disney Archives

Sorcerer Package tickets are available exclusively to both D23 Gold and Gold Family Members at $2,250 per ticket. Members have the option to purchase up to two Sorcerer tickets. Additional details and benefits are highlighted at D23Expo.com.

D23 Gold and Charter Members will be entitled to special benefits throughout the weekend. Look for announcements about these opportunities in the coming months.

Remember from my mistake: I was a charter member, but switched to family when Noe and I married. When he dropped the family, I tried to go back to mine, but lost my charter status. So be very careful! I’ll never be able to sit at those tables or use the popcorn machine again, and it’s my own damn fault.

BBC.com Culture Returns to San Diego Comic-Con with Disney’s Marvel/ILM Experts to ask
“Are Heroes Born or Made?”

Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely (Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War)

Returning to San Diego Comic-Con for a second year, BBC.com Culture will present its 2016 panel, “Are Heroes Born or Made?” featuring writing duo Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely (Captain America: Civil War, Avengers: Infinity War), Industrial Light & Magic visual effects art director Aaron McBride (The Avengers, Jurassic World), and comics writer Christopher James Priest (Black Panther, Batman). The panel, moderated by BBC.com’s Deputy Culture Editor Christian Blauvelt, will address the ultimate question: who are the greater heroes – those who were born with powers, or those who have none?

A.McBride
Aaron McBride (The Avengers, Jurassic World)

fabsays As for me, I think it depends upon the circumstances and on who’s doing the writing. For example,   this Cap-Hydra nonsense? Let’s not. Hulk yes, Mr. Fixit yes, Red Hulk no. See? Or whose comic book it is. If it’s an Iron Man issue, you can bet it’ll be one way, and if it’s Thor, it will be another. But I will be at this panel with bells on. I can’t wait.

Where no Star Trek Franchise Has Gone Before

from the International mailbag:

“Star TrekTM: Operation Enterprise” Opening in Movie Park Germany in 2017

The guests in Movie Park Germany can expect an exceptional roller coaster in 2017. The coaster will not only be the second highest construction in the park, but will also be a worldwide unique attraction in an amusement park utilizing Star Trek.

“We are excited and proud that we obtained the Star Trek license from CBS Consumer Products in the USA. Through this we are redefining the benchmark for Germany’s largest film and amusement park,” states General Manager Thorsten Backhaus. For 50 years, Star Trek has appealed to generations with iconic characters such as Captain Kirk, Spock and Captain Picard. The manufacturer of the ride also reinforces the park’s focus on quality.

“For this significant project we have selected to work with the Company Mack Rides, the largest German manufacturer of roller coasters and amusement park attractions,” says Thorsten Backhaus .

The company works internationally but the construction of a roller coaster in a German amusement park is something really special. Christian Freiherr von Elverfeldt, CEO of Mack Rides, is happy about this.

“With an average of 90 percent of our products produced for export, it’s really special for us to construct such a fantastic coaster in Movie Park Germany.”

The City of Bottrop’s Council has provided the final approval for the construction of the coaster -punctually for the Park’s 20-year anniversary. Thorsten Backhaus is pleased about it: “We appreciate the trust from Bottrop and we can hardly wait to really start with this prestigious project.”

The future position of the roller coaster will be located directly in the entrance of Movie Park Germany. Its impressive silhouette will be the eye catcher for the guests when arriving in the park. “Only the Free Fall Tower ride in park will be higher,” states the General Manager, when describing the dimensions of the project.

The new coaster will be what is known as a launch coaster, with which the guests will begin the experience with an accelerated catapulting and not first drawn over a hill with a respective drop. “We have an element in the routing, which is unparalleled in Europe and will definitely surprise our guests,” said the General Manager, revealing an initial detail of the coaster.

In the coming weeks the construction of the tracks will be started. With the realization of this roller coaster, Germany’s largest film and amusement park is not only developing further its portfolio for family and teenagers, but also is directly reacting to its guest’s input, explains General Manager Thorsten Backhaus. “Guest research, which is regularly carried out in the park, has provided us with clear input that they wish a new major thrill attraction. In 2017 this wish will be fulfilled.”

PhotoMagic

My friend Jon Nadelberg has been trying to teach me a little about photography, the poor sap. I’m doing much better and he hasn’t quite torn out ALL of his hair yet. He put together a couple of old and new photos while playing around in Photoshop this week, and while he thought they were just a lark, I thought you might like to see them:

That’s for everyone who feels like Walt’s always in the park.
