Hello my loves. I always like to get the scary stuff out of the way first – but, actually, it makes me feel a bit safer. Remember when I said I was happy that Disney was using metal detectors and that I wished they used them for everyone? They caught a real creep at WDW with the detectors. Time to use them for everyone!

Man Caught with Gun at WDW, Falsely Claims to be a Cop

Kevin Webb, 42, of Arkansas was arrested for carrying a concealed firearm and falsely impersonating a law enforcement officer. He admitted he had a firearm after being selected for additional screening at the entrance to The Magic Kingdom on Monday, area deputies said. (In matters like this, Walt Disney World folks usually remain completely mum – controlling the story IS the #1 rule in PR. The exception, I’ve learned from my I’ve-done-this-for-a-living-for-three-decades friends, is when law enforcement is involved. Let them speak.)

He provided credentials that stated he was a patrolman with Sherwood Police Department in Arkansas, but the savvy Disney security officer had a hunch something was amiss and called to verify the information  – and learned Webb was fired in 2013 for ‘dishonesty and untruthfulness’. Officers found a loaded pistol with seven rounds of .25 caliber ammo and a .25-caliber magazine in the same pocket on Webb. Why Webb wanted to take a gun and all of that ammo into the park, we’ll probably never know for sure. He has a record of playing fast and loose with the truth.

“He broke policy for Disney and broke the law for impersonating a police officer,'” Orange County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Jeff Williamson told WOFL, a local television station. “He had not been a police officer for the past three years, so therefore he was arrested on those two charges.”

Kevin Webb

No weapons of any kind or objects that appear to be weapons are allowed in the park, according to Disney’s park rules posted online. Webb has since been released after posting bail and his next court date has not been scheduled.

New Parking Structure

MiceChat first broke this news months ago. Disney finally filed documents in Anaheim City Hall yesterday detailing the plans for the parking structure and transportation hub that are going to go through and behind the Carousel Hotel site. A story in the OC Register by Joseph Pimentel with Mark Eades states that there will be a 6800-space parking structure that will stretch seven stories high, with the new transportation hub directly behind where the Carousel is now,  the parking structure just South of that, and the auto entrance to the structure on the Southwestern end of that, facing south, with several lanes feeding into the structure. The target date is sometime in late 2018.

The old shuttle area  on the Harbor Blvd. side of the property would become part of Werner Weiss’ collection over in Yesterland, and most of that real estate would either become attraction or – more likely  – support buildings for Marvel Land in DCA. Again, that’s not news to you if you read our last MiceAge update.

From the garage and tram area, there would be a security area leading to a bridge 20 feet over Harbor boulevard. And yes, it’s a long haul from the midpoint of the garage or the buses outward to the gates, especially in warm weather or with a disability or with little ones just past stroller age. There’s no tram, no moving walkway, no Peoplemover. It’s gonna be rough. Even more so on the way out. I remember nights as a single mom with a sleepy six-year-old. Sometimes I thought we were just going to have to crash on a bench until morning because I was too exhausted to carry her dead weight to the back of Mickey and Friends. But we always made it, somehow.

The mailbox is SO FULL today!

Mini Cars Land in Cars Land

When I was working on the last Disneyland Update, I admired the manicured lawn of Sarge’s Surplus’ Quonset hut, then went to look inside and found a really cool treat – a miniature Cars Land on display. I guess it’s been too long since I’ve moseyed in to that shop, and I’m pretty sure everybody who goes to DCA a lot has seen it, but it’s new to me, and might be new to my out-of-towners, so here’s a few photos:

Erin Glover, (Official title: Editorial Content Director, Disneyland Resort), whom I adore, told us all about it on the Disney Parks Blog. Just as I was about to stick my head in the oven, (to see if the commemorative light bulb was still in there) I remembered I didn’t have an oven, so I kept reading. She then brightened my whole life like the splendor, the spectacle, the sparkling sensation…okay, well, maybe not THAT much, but it turned my frown upside-down when she let on that Paint the Night would return for select nights during the holiday season. Go Erin with that great big spoonful of sugar to help the Perrey and Kingsley go down!

My husband, Noe, gets so furious with me when I talk smack about MSEP, his voice pitches an entire octave higher, which is so freakin’ adorable, I start to giggle, which gets me into so. much. more trouble…you don’t even know. If he’d ever gotten to SEE SpectroMagic, he’d totally agree with me. He’d never admit it, though.

OK, what's the inspiration for this?

OK, what’s the inspiration for this?

Michelle – A former graphic designer gone rogue and the daughter of an engineer–utilizes that background to create three-dimensional art with a mid-century modern flair. She uses bold sculptural shapes, mixed with an element of surprise, to convey both her love of abstract forms and her sense of humor. Michelle begins her art by visually translating her sensations and perceptions into “a story with no words”. This sets the tone and creates her goal. She describes it as “visually engineering a solution and then adding an unexpected twist”. This process started when she was a wee tyke building architectural sculptures out of toothpicks, and segued into her present mid-century modern work. Like a rolling stone, Michelle gathers no moss. She sometimes talks like a pirate, and knows how to stand on her head.

Matt Spangler will be at the WonderGround Gallery!

Matt-Spangler

Matt Spangler was Born and raised in San Diego, Matt has always been drawn to robots. From an early age he explored the idea of creating his own robots. Since he didn’t possess the ability to create an electronic-based one, his first ever robot was made in the 4th grade out of trash. From then on, the obsession with all things robotics began. Matt graduated from Cal State Fullerton with a degree in Entertainment Arts and began illustrating robots full time in 2010.Matt-Spangler-Such-Great-Heights-Web1

He can also paint Fine Art, and has painted a beautiful Lilo and Stitch for the gallery, and was working on an adorable Dumbo painting when I spoke to him this past weekend. He’ll be there:
