We have breaking news coming from the future Marvel Land at Disney California Adventure. The scaffolding in the back and shrouds in front of Guardians Of The Galaxy: Mission Breakout! have come down and we have our best look yet at the attraction opening in May.

The View From The Street

When we first heard about the “warehouse/fortress/power plant” design coming to the former Hollywood Tower Hotel, I wondered how the local Homeowners Association would react to such a radical change in décor. Now that the shrouds and scaffolding are down from the back and most of the side of the showbuilding, it doesn’t look so bad.

Now that the shrouds are down from the front of the tower portion, we have our first look at the meat of this change.

The view from Star Wars Land. Yes, you can see this tower from all the way behind Disneyland!
And here’s the front of the tower. It was very hazy during our photo shoot, so some of these photos may look a bit washed out. Everything is much brighter.

And Dusty posted some shots to the MiceChat Facebook Page (which I encourage you to like and follow!)

The wraps are off on the front of Guardians of the Galaxy. You can just make out some of the new details and colors through the construction catwalks.

A Closer Look At The Details

The home of The Collector is a mishmash of pipes and symbols. Until now, we only had the concept art telling us what that would be like. Now, for the first time we can see what the design looks like in real life.

There are a lot of colorful dishes all over the place.

More To Come

The project still has two months before it’s set to open and there is still lots to be done. The ground level portion of the building remains a work in progress.

Is This A “California” Attraction?

Guardians Of The Galaxy: Mission Breakout! is the first in a series of Marvel Attractions coming to Disney California Adventure.

Starting May 27 (along with the opening of ) through September 10, Disneyland will celebrate the Summer Of Heroes. Here’s a rundown from the Disney Parks Blog:

Summer of Heroes will launch these new, year-round experiences:

  • Guardians of the Galaxy: Awesome Dance Off! – Don’t be surprised if you run into the Guardians of the Galaxy on their way to the Milano, with Star-Lord firing up his old-school boom box to get the party started. Gamora may prefer to stand back and observe, but everyone else is bound to get in the groove and show off their moves during this awesome rock ‘n’ roll bash!
  • Super Hero Encounters – For the first time, citizens of Earth will come face-to-face with Groot, one of the Guardians of the Galaxy! You can also step up to meet the First Avenger, Captain America, along with everyone’s favorite web slinger, your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man.

And for a limited time, step up to the challenge with new adventures during Summer of Heroes:

  • Avengers Training Initiative – Black Widow and Hawkeye assemble young recruits for a series of tests to see if they have what it takes to join the ranks of the Avengers. Heroic Encounter: Black Widow – Black Widow will arrive on the scene several times throughout the day in an armored Avengers vehicle for her heroic encounter with park guests.
  • Grab a Piece (or Bite) of the Action – All that heroism making you hungry? Want a token as proof of your adventures when you get home? Special themed merchandise and food will be available throughout Hollywood Land.

With Disney California Adventure launching “year-round Marvel experiences” and rumors of the Hollywood Backlot and the adjacent (and soon-to-be replaced) transit center becoming Marvel Land (Marvel Land News: Looking Ahead 2/3/17), will it be long before Disney reconsiders the “California” in Disney California Adventure?

The MiceChat Podcast discussed this issue on a recent show.
