Rain washed away just about all of the first two nights of Disneyland’s newly-expanded 20-night run of Candlelight over the weekend. Still, the extended run of the popular event will continue as planned, with seating reserved for Annual Passholders. Meanwhile, the holidays season continues throughout the Resort with a new gingerbread house inspired by “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” finding a home at Carthay Circle Restaurant.

Candlelight Arrives

Disneyland’s traditional and wildly popular Candlelight Processional and Ceremony returned over the weekend. The event typically takes place the first weekend of December, but has been expanded to a 20-night run this year, starting with Saturday’s performances. The expanded schedule means the stage on Main Street Station and additional set-up throughout Town Square will remain up for the better part of the month, only being taken down in time for the extremely busy last two weekends of the year.

Some of the Candlelight set-up seen from the main entrance has been dressed up a bit for its extended run.

In Town Square, this is what guests will be greeted with through December 20.

By day the whole thing is rather an eyesore and it’ll be interesting to see how the nightly Candlelight performances and set-up will affect crowd flow in the area as the holiday season gets busier.

Candlelight began as Disneyland’s annual gift back to the local community, with special community VIPs being given VIP seating during the event. Seating for this weekend’s performances was reserved for Disney’s VIP guests as per tradition, but three out of four performances over the weekend were canceled due to rain.

The remaining nights of Candlelight have reserved seating for Annual Passholders, which were chosen by an online lottery. Below, the schedule of performances and celebrity narrators for nights open to Annual Passholders.
Celebrity Narrators and Dates

  • December 3, 4, 5: Kurt Russell
  • December 6, 7, 8: Edward James Olmos
  • December 9, 10, 11: Lou Diamond Phillips
  • December 12, 13: Dick Van Dyke
  • December 14: Marcia Gay Harden
  • December 15, 16: Patricia Heaton
  • December 17, 18, 19: Molly Ringwald
  • December 20: Dennis Haysbert

Main Street Station will have limited operation and alternate entrance/exit routes due to Candlelight

Nearby, the Main Street Opera House and Disney Gallery close will early due to Candlelight.

The Omnibus’ stop in Town Square has moved a bit, now closer to the front of the Opera House, due to Candlelight.

In Tomorrowland, Captain EO closes early for Candlelight staging.

Special Candlelight merchandise is available at select shops including Disney Showcase on Main Street and World of Disney in Downtown Disney.

Women’s top:

Sweatshirt and scarf

Construction Kingdom

At the end of Main Street, construction progresses at the upcoming Fantasy Faire princess meet-and-greet area.

The Fantasyland Theater continues to come along as well…

In Frontierland, some refurbishment work took place on the bridge in Big Thunder Trail over the week. Dateline Disneyland reader Jacob Genzuk snapped these shots of the work being done at night earlier in the week.

By the weekend, the bridge work was completed and the path was open to guests again.

Some nearby rock work is getting some TLC as well

Welcome to California Adventure

Over in Disney California Adventure, the holidays continue with no big news to report.

The Buena Vista Street Community Bell Ringers are really great

Awnings have been replaced at Elias and Co.

No more text on the awnings advertising the store having the “Widest Selection” or “Highest Quality”

A larger sign to draw people into the Santa meet-and-greet at Elias and Co. has been added

At Carthay Circle Restaurant, a Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs-themed gingerbread house has been added to the lobby.

It’s worth checking out.

In addition to the Carthay Circle Restaurant’s gingerbread house, Disney announced two other gingerbread creations last week including a gingerbread Mater at Flo’s V8 Cafe and a gingerbread house inspired by Walt Disney’s home at the Fiddler, Fifer and Practical Cafe, but neither of those were on display at their announced locations over the weekend.

The rain forced the Red Car News Boys and Five and Dime performances to be canceled over the weekend

The News Boys still made appearances, however, singing from a Red Car as it went down the trolley route

In A Bug’s Land, the lemonade stand in Flik’s Fun Fair has been removed.

Give some Disney fun this year!
The holidays are here again and what better gift to give this holiday season than Disney?

Dateline Disneyland

In celebration of Dateline Disneyland’s 5th Anniversary, we’re taking a look back at photos from the Dateline Disneyland archives. Join us as we look back at some photos from past updates and talk about the changes seen at the Disneyland Resort over the last five years. It’s a fun look back at some big changes over the last half-decade.

This week we look back to October 18, 2010. Disneyland had just opened its new Tangled meet-and-greet in Fantasyland and huge changes were underway at Disney California Adventure.

Tangled wasn’t in theaters yet, but Rapunzel made a big first impression on Fantasyland with her hair wrapping around buildings. The hair is no longer there, but Rapunzel still meets guests in this location.

Rapunzel proved to be popular with long wait times that continue today.

Meanwhile, Duffy the Disney Bear sailed into Disney California Adventure, making less of an impact than Rapunzel.

At DCA, the main entrance murals were being removed.

Sunshine Plaza’s sun fountain was in the process of being removed…

Construction continued on the then-upcoming Little Mermaid dark ride

And nearby, Mullholland Madness had started its conversion into Goofy’s Sky School and the old Burger Invasion and Pizza Oom Mow Mow restaurants were being transformed into the fantastic new Paradise Garden area.

Not far from the Paradise Garden area, the Maliboomer was still in the process of being removed.

Meanwhile, the Cadillac Range in Cars Land was still just steel framework.

    Great Update Andy

I can’t believe how far the entrance has come. I remember thinking that Buena Vista Street wiuld ever be built in the same area as Sunshoine Plaza due to the large amount of work. Also, the Little Mer,maid was under construction, as was Cadillac Range. And the Maliboomer was being removed. Personally, I think that it shold of been rethemed, but I supose it looks better without it when looking at Paradise Pier from Cars Land

    Thanks Again Andy

  • jsanch2

Great Update! I’m Lovin the flashback stories, it’s amazing to see how far the resort has come in just a few short years!

  • r1hert2

Great update! As always! Isn’t it a bit strange that Captain EO would close mid day for the Candlelight Ceremony at the other end of the street. Strange indeed.

    • Pammer

I wondered the same thing…what is the relationship?

Enjoyed the column as always & wishing I was there for the holidays again!

      • RatherBeAtDLand

It’s used as a staging area for the performance.

  • mratigan

    Thanks for the update
I really like the Snow White gingerbread house

  • SanDiegoAl

It’s amazing when you look back when the construction was just starting for DCA 2.0 and what they have accomplished. Just amazing. Hope this will be a life lesson for the company. Great update. Going to Candlelight on Wednesday. Hope to have some pictures.

  • rstar

Yes, I agree, great update as usual! Looking back at the old photos reminds me of what it felt like to have to wait so long to see it all. But it realy didn’t seem that long a wait, and now we are enjoying it!

Oh, and I did see the Mater Ginger Bread at Flo’s V8 (from about two weeks ago)! I have a couple of pictures I could share.

  • Bee14

    Thanks for another great update!

  • Terrytiger

I am still surprised that they decided to stage Candlelight for so long on Main Street. I really thought it would move back to the Fantasyland Theater and expect that will be the case in future years.

  • tymantyman

    Not much happening lately!

  • jcruise86

    Thanks, Andy!

I agree that the Buena Vista Street Bell Ringers are most excellent! Get there early to be in front. (Their name is misleading–they are more about singing than bell ringing.)

I also recommend hearing the quartet of Christmas carolers in the beautiful lobby of the Grand Californian. A concierge there can tell you when they’ll perform. Their first show at the Grand CAian was at 3pm on Dec. 1. I believe they also sing at the DLR’s other two hotels.

  • Donnyabear

I love these updates. Happy 5th year! I’ve only been reading for the past year and a half or so, and reading these updates has quickly become a weekly tradition for me. Thanks for all the hard work, how can I get a job with you? 🙂
I had forgotten about the golden gate bridge entrance to DCA, what an improvement the current entrance is. Thank again Dateline for giving me a bit of magic from today and a bit of remembered magic from yesterday.

  • Caspian

Congratulations on five years. Dateline Disneyland is one of my favorite parts of micechat.

Christmas crowds and twenty nights of Candlelight will be interesting to say the least. I don’t see how they are going to handle high volumes with the width of Main Street blocked off. Where did the decision to run the show for 20 nights come from?

  • jmichael79

Makes me want to fly to California! Another great update.

  • ogso

Thanks for the weekly update. This is my favorite commentary! Looking forward to my Christmas time visit next week!

  • bamato

    Thanks for another awesome update!!

  • Cheshire

amazing to see how much looks different with the construction done

  • ParadeDude

Great pictures! I love the resort at Christmastime!

  • Gregg Condon

Now we see the real reason Candlelight was expanded. Merchandising, Merchandising, Merchandising.

  • mkemows

Great update as always. Too bad you’re having rain like we have rain up here in Seattle!

  • Bundaegi

Great update as usual. This really is the highlight of my Monday mornings. I look froward to it every week.

  • pli1018

I love these look-backs you guys have started adding to the back of the updates, they’re great!

  • tystock

Very cool update…can’t wait to go this weekend. Do we have any idea what’s going in the fantasyland theater yet?

  • cris77

Thanks for the great update as always! Happy 5th, Dateline Disney! 🙂

  • askiwillanswer

Loved the Snow White gingerbread house! So cute. I hope there are pictures of the others mentioned, that is when they get out out. I can’t wait to go back soon.

  • DisneyGoof

Can’t wait to see the Candlelight ceremony for the first time on the 16th! Happy Anniversary!

  • MrGoat

I love your updates! They keep me going between visits, and bonus: they come on Monday, a fine way to start a week!

  • Riboflavin

Going to candlelight Tuesday, hope we don’t get rained out.

  • esmith

Thank you for my weekly Disney fix!!!

  • bstone76

Great update as always. We are coming from Sacramento next week and were hoping to see candlelight, but we did not get selected. We have not been since cars land opened so it will be fun none the less.

  • Kimickey

Great update! Really love the holiday touches across both parks! We’re going to the 7:30 Candlelight tomorrow and it’s not “supposed” to rain on us. I hope not as I’ll have my camera and it hates the wet weather. The flashback segments is also very cool! Thanks again!

Going tomorrow 12/4, really looking forward to taking lots of photos and enjoying the holiday decor! Thanks so much for the great update

  • FlubberZorro

I wish I had won one of the Candlelight AP tickets, but thanks for a great update!

  • heysi

Having not been to the park since I moved to Las Vegas, I have to say that the park has never looked better. DCA was never without problems but it has become a park I’m just itching to spend a day or two visiting. Thank you for wheting my DIsneyland appetite every monday. I’m seriously considering spending a week there this spring just to get reaquainted with the whole park.

  • gauchogirl

Nice update! Love Dateline Disneyland; read it every week, even if I was there for everything you’re reporting!

  • rfaljean

I wish I could be there, but your updates keep me in touch. Thanks so much!

  • Dawncala

What a difference two years makes. I can’t wait to see all the completed changes.

  • urbanleadership

Happy Anniversary Dateline Disneyland! Hope everyone is staying warm and dry, especially under those new awnings.

  • JDN

I miss the old front entrance to DCA and the golden gate bridge. Don’t get me wrong – I love the new Buena Vista Street… just miss the old, too! 🙂 Thanks, Andy!

  • dlpostcardguy

Thanks as always for the weekly updates! So much to see at the parks this holiday season. DCA looks especially nice. Let’s hope that if they decide to do extended Candlelight next year (special ticket event or otherwise) they are held in the FL Theater. It really clutters up Town Square during the daytime.

  • DisneylandPlanner

I love looking at the archieved articles, it is amazing how much I remember from them

  • Oathkeeper

Another great update as usual! 😀

  • yoyoflamingo

    Love the photos, as always.

Interesting to see what happens with the Candlelight processional. If AP performances are cancelled, what are they going to do about the APers up in arms?

  • dmomof4

I don’t think the Candlelight set up is an eye sore…I saw it Friday and it gave me goosebumps cuz I was so excited it was here.

  • lovedisney617

Back in 2005 my high school choir got invited to sing in that years candlelight and it is one of the best disney experiences I have! Standing up on that stage and singing to the crowds at Disneyland is something I will never forget! I hope those who get to sing now enjoy it as much as I did!

  • dsnypaul

    Really enjoy the updates. Thanks

  • nursemelis374

Another person enjoying the flashback series!

I didn’t realize they had to do so much staging for CP!

    Great update as always!

  • igrules

It would be great if Candlelight could be held in a covered space so that it would take place rain or shine. It’s been 2 years in a row of getting rained out. I’m all for tradition, but I wouldn’t mind having Candlelight in the Fantasyland Theater once it’s remodeled.

  • bayouguy

We need a Christmas miracle of real snow falling on Disneyland DCA for the holidays. Place looks fantastic!

  • Algernon

They should leave Captain Eo closed, and bring back Magic Journeys. I’m getting a 2D to 3D conversion computer monitor for Christmas so I can watch YouTube videos of the old Disneyland in 3D, before all the railings and other garbage ruined it. In March the Oculus Rift virtual reality glasses will be coming out. Sooner or later somebody will recreate a virtual reality old Disneyland that I can “go” to, as this Disneyland slowly becomes an overly priced Coney Island.

  • mabelkitty

Thank you Andy for another wonderful update! Wishing everyone who braves the next couple of weeks at the park lots of good luck and patience dealing with the crowds – but it’s a pretty nice place to be no matter what. 🙂

  • KENfromOC

Got at California Adventure at 7AM on Saturday to get in line for the candy canes – And yes I got one. Very tasty!

  • Irving

What a great idea to have this 5 year look back. It is amazong to see how California Adventure has improved in just this past years!

  • ewokrights

I wonder what happened to the AP’s whose Candlelight performances were rained out? Great update!!

  • tad4irsh

I have been gone or almost a year…I can’t wait to get back and finally get my chance to see all the great additions to Disneyland! All of it looks fantastic and thanks for the updates — even though from week to week it seems slow progress is being made…it is still fun to take a walk through the changes with you! Only four more months (!!!) before I will get the chance to take my own pictures of the magic!!! Thanks guys!

  • dolewhipdude

Many thanks Andy. Even on a slow news week, it’s great to get an update and see inside the parks!

  • acavanias

    Great update! Thank you!!

  • Lorrain

    Great Update as always!

  • mrdv28

    Another Great Update!

  • fish biscuits

I didn’t win Candlelight tickets, but I’m hoping to enjoy some Christmas goodness at a visit to the parks this week. I’m dying to catch the bell ringers!

(Not sure if my first comment posted)

  • eicarr

A fake roof extension with roof tiles would look much better than the colorful banners, but they are doing the best they can. I think the whole idea of a full month of candlelight is not well thought out. Heavily expanding and commercializing such a small and special thing does not seem like a good idea. But hey, if it works, and people are clamoring for it…..

I used to move quickly through the DCA update after taking my time with the Disneyland update, now its just the opposite. I’m all about DCA now, especially since Disneyland gets nothing new but minor refurbishments, retail outlets and meet-and-greet areas. I’m just glad my new favorite park is next to Disneyland.

  • junglero_cruiser

Great Update! Hope you are having a super holiday season! Keep up the great work!

  • disney1218

    Another great update!

  • enkiktd

“Disney can control a lot of things, ma’am, but the weather is not one of them.”

  • agent321

I always look forward to the updates on Mondays. Thanks for helping to cushion the blow of the weekends ending!

  • MrsCSayles

My husband and I make a point to check your updates every week! We are so greatful for you guys! 😀

  • Skimbob

We are heading down this week to see all the beautiful Christmas decorations. I have to say this is my most favorite time of year at Disneyland. Hopefully the weather we had this weekend won’t repeat itself but it wouldn’t be the first time we have been there when it’s raining. I need a heavy dose of Fantasmic right about now.

    Happy Holidays everyone.

  • greinstein

    Me, win?

  • LarrySubs

Rainly weekend really changed thing up!! Nice update Andy!

  • bhbob

Great update again! I look forward to these every week.

  • crazysurfergrl

Awesome update! Boy have the parks come a very long long long way in 5 years! Interesting how much the rain has had an effect on the parks this weekend.

LOVE the weekly update & photos…. the best part of my Monday 🙂 I can’t get enough of the holiday decorations.

  • chipndale16

Thanks for another great update! I really like the ” from the archives” section.

  • whyshouldiworry

    Thanks for the update.

  • Suppin Falls

Interesting that they still haven’t taken down the Princess Fantasy Faire sign.

  • WheresMickey

    Great update!

  • dfan07

I like the Snow White gingerbread house.

  • swfanatic

Great report! While I know for many that visit, Disneyland is such a common thing. But for me, living a long ways away, I can’t get there very often. And I WILL BE IN DISNEYLAND ON THURSDAY! This excites me more than I can even begin to say! And being an avid reader of this column each week certainly helps!

  • scottc

Thank you for the update, I still enjoy seeing the old construction pictures. Brings back memories of a few years ago and watching the weekly update and seeing the progress.

  • Amygaga

Great update! California Adventure sure has come a long way. I love seeing the old pictures.

  • parker4fm

Any chance they could move Candlelight inside to the Opera House? I’ve never seen this performance, so honestly have no idea. My thought is that it may be a fire hazard?

  • TheDude

    Great update, as always

  • knaacje

    great update

  • mulva5

Nice update, can’t believe what DCA looked like a little over 2 years ago. Amazing.

  • mcampos5

    Hey, Howdy, Hey,

I really appreciate all the great info posted in the weekly updates. It’s just amazing to see the visuals in all the photos. I always concerned about capacity levels in the parks as I continue to plan my trips.

    Keep up the good work.

  • mickeyandme

i need a howard johnson getaway!

  • jjmaneja

This will be first candlelight experience. Does anyone have any advice on how to get the most out of the experience? What time should I reserve my seat on the concrete? Where is the best location? What time does the ceremony start?

  • kgforce

I’ve been to DL three times over the last 6 years and have yet to see the double-decker bus. I’m beginning to believe it’s mythical… or Photoshop’d. 😉

  • SilverMouse

Congrats Andy on 5 amazing years! I will be down there next weekend for 3 magical days…can’t wait!

  • fitztwg

    Nice update.

Great update! I just got back (Nov.25th-28th) and these pictures make me ready to go back again. These updates will have to hold me over till my next trip in April/May.

  • JMazz

  • rlub

    Looks great!

  • Tinkd

thanks for the update, I wonder at what point people will see that Disneyland is turning into greedy machine. I originally planned to visit this weekend anticipating it being a slower time vs the Holiday rush, but now we will have to fight the large crowds anyway 🙁 due to the CLP. I believe it’s loosing it’s quaintness.

  • jazzy67962

thanks for a great update!! I can’t wait to go to disneyland myself!!! =)

  • Pirate Wench

    Thanks for the great update!

  • ah92us

I suppose for Candlelight even if there’s a weekend of rain, there’s still another 16 performances left to go!

  • OogieBoogie

Great Update. Thanks for filling us in on all the happenings and the great pix. I think I may have to call Deliverears to get one of the candlelight shirts.

  • sunnyca

Hoping it won’t rain tonight, because I have tickets for tonight’s Candlelight Ceremony. Keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks for the great update! 🙂

  • Jillchristina

Wish I was able to visit the parks this Christmastime. The community bell ringers look wonderful!

  • tahoemommy

I am glad that Disney expanded the Candlelight Processional performances to more than just one weekend. The celebrity narrators will be a special treat.

  • calebspeaks

I really miss Disneyland. Especially at Christmas. Thanks for the update. Beautiful pics!

  • sassidisneymama

Thanks for keeping me close to the park when I can’t be there! Loved the look back! Congrats on 5 magical years and here’s to many more!

  • schapeli

The magic of Christmas and the magic of Disney…WOW

  • LoonAZ

Thanks for the update. Always makes Mondays more bearable.

  • BrerDan

    Thanks for another great update.

I have to admit to being surprised to seeing Buena Vista Street awnings being replaced already (and I wonder why they removed the text), just as I was puzzled by the terazzo floor being replaced at Carthay Circle. Were there problems with the original installations? It seems too early for simply refurbishment. I’m sure they have their reasons, but it leaves me scratching my head 🙂

  • missmarcie

Wish I could go for this Christmas but reading about it is almost as cool!

  • breeheil

    Love all the info…THANK YOU!!!!!

  • LadyNimrodelle

Great update! I love reading these!

    Great update! As always!

  • GiRiMama33

Looking at these photos makes me want to take the trip for the CP date I won (I don’t recall entering Sunday’s, but that is what we were graced with).

Love the Snow White Gingerbread house – Adorable…I wish I was that talented…my GB houses always fall apart. 🙁

  • Outtiehere82

We opted to buy tickets for the “Ultimate Holiday Tour” that were $150 that included tickets for last Sunday’s Candlelight Procession. We were in the group that was scheduled for the 7:30 PM Sunday performance. We got about 15-20 minutes into the performance and they called it off. It was unfortunate but the folks over at the guided tour garden did an excellent job of rescheduling the folks that could come back and for those of us that were from out of state and unable to come back we got a refunded for the difference of what the cost for the Ultimate Holiday Tour vs the standard Holiday Tour.

As I understand it if you didn’t get one of the AP slots you can still buy one of the “Ultimate Holiday Tour” packages to see Candlelight. You just don’t get the AP discount off the tour.

  • reddox

Lovely update. Disneland at Christmas is truly wonderful.

  • disney4me2001

It’s crazy what a difference 2 years makes! Glad the construction is over and that everything turned out great!

  • Experiment 626

Awesome update, too bad rain canceled the ceremony’s. I wished I got picked though. Hopefully I can see the singers in BVS soon. Santa is at Elias and Company! WOO HOO! 😉

  • KiMcHeEfOrLiFe

Thanks for the updates, as usual!

  • Jay Allen

These reminiscing portions are motivating me to get back. Today’s photos were taken after the last time I went. A lot has changed in a couple of years (CA Adventure.)

  • dl_appurtenant

    Love those flashbacks!

  • Linderella

Great update! Looking forward to our family vacation there next week! Hoping the sun comes back while we are there! Love the gingerbread house!

  • painted windows

    Great update!

  • DisDreamin

Now I’m curious if they will replace the Lemonade stand in Fliks Fun Fair with a different food stand or if its just a refurb of that space?

  • Scotty

Thanks for the consistent good work you do every week. It’s appreciated.

  • Leviathan

    Great Update thank you!

  • shaynese

Excellent update. I was at Disneyland Saturday and a few sprinkle didn’t deter us 🙂 The park is beautiful and hopefully next year we can do the candlelight since it seems pretty awesome.

  • KCmike

I really wish I could get back out to Disneyland again!

  • disneydayna

great update can’t wait to see all the Christmas stuff tomorrow . won’t be sleeping tonight to excited!!!

  • mcow1

Great update. Too bad about Candlelight getting rained out both nights though

  • disneyseeker

Great update Andy! I’m enjoying the archives a lot! Hard to believe that DCA was like that just a couple years ago.

  • tinkermonkey

Looks like I left before the rain got there – which means it’s not my fault! 🙂

I love the “look back” photos. When we were there for Thanksgiving, my husband kept marveling at the rock work in Carsland and how it was amazing to have seen it being built.

Thanks, as always, for another great update! Happy 5 years!

  • light2house

This is a GREAT Update! I wish that I could make it down there this Christmas season!

  • scarymouse

Nice update, great pictures as always !

    Thanks for the update!

  • sucho23

Bummer about the Candlelight. I am hoping though that the rain is getting done with before we get there this year. Last time we went around Christmas it rained every day.

  • ShorelineDLer

Anyone have a video of the bell ringers?

  • LittleSquirt

I remember my parents taking me to Disneyland on rainy days as a child! Rain or shine, I was always there! 😀

  • RodeToad

    Another great update!

  • krazykaren5

Thanks for the beautiful pictures. Haven’t been to Disneyland during the Christmas time in a long time. Thanks again for the update.

  • goofypirate

Great update, even with not much new stuff to report on!

  • Awe_inspired

I REALLY like being able to click on the photos for larger versions. THANK YOU!!!!

  • mickdaddy

Great update! Really love your reports gives me my Disneyland fix since I do not get there very often.

  • sleepybear

Thank you so much for bringing DLR to us each week. I live in NorCal and don’t get to park as often as I’d like. If it weren’t for DLD and MC, I’d never know what was new and exciting. I miss the parks, but you guys help me miss it a little less.

    Happy Holidays!

  • madhatterfan

I enjoyed being reminded how far CA has come in two short years.

Too bad the candlelight processions got rained out.

  • vyim

Can’t wait to ride the new indiana jones ride. It says the 8th that it opens, but i heard it might be the 7th. anyone heard the same????

  • cdirvine

Thanks for the update. I can’t believe it’s been 5 years. It actually doesn’t seem like we’ve waited that long for all the DCA changes. Love all the great pics. Hope to see the Candlelight Procession soon now that the rain is over!

  • Dinglehopper

Wow! It’s hard to believe how far CA adventure has come in two years! It will be interesting to look back on today in two years and see what changes will have been made.

  • walterfamily05

Its actually the best when it rains at Disneyland! Wonderful post as always! 🙂

  • Wyatt Furr

    Great Update! Thanks!

  • iamdisneysgirl

Even though I go every week its refreshing to see pictures of the park! 😀

  • shadowman

It was disappointing when I didn’t win seats in the Candlelight lottery, but probably not as disappointing if I won then the show was canceled. Great update!

  • BlueEyedCub

Great update as always, thanks for keeping us all up to date!

  • lalolovesme

Fantastic update! I love the throwback photos.

Thanks for all the hard work!

  • paswato

    Great update.

  • Steveman

I need to fit in a weekday trip this season before the schools let out.

  • anmal2

Look forward to reading every monday evening, so we know what to look for on our next trip. Thanks so much!

  • aread101

Candlelight was incredible…the weather cleared!! Kurt Russell was very good as narrator. Orchestra and choir (huge choir) along with bell ringers and trumpeter heralds on top of the train station provided great music, with Russell’s narration of the Christmas Story the total package was inspiring and uplifting.

Crowd control was basically 1 one way.. enter next to the Disney Gallery and exit next to City Hall. Lots of Castmembers directing crowd control. I am sure putting on 2 performances a night for 20 straight nights is going to be a challenge for everyone..

But all of their efforts are very much appreciated as Candlelight is a great experience.

  • dLite

Great update Andy. Congrats on 5 years! I have been reading your articles almost as long you have been contributing to MiceAge. =]
    Thanks for your hard work.

  • hrdrockbob

check out the neon of the Flos V8 cafe sign that faces the street…its been broken for a couple of weeks now…another sign of disney not fixing things…great update as always

  • 100acrebarb

Even rain can’t stop all the fun at the parks. We have had some really great times on rainy days there. I love the snow white cottage gingerbread house. One more special thing about holidays at the park.

  • BrettCherylCamden

Amazing how things can change in a few months! Great update. We cannot wait to see the improvements first hand. We will see first hand in a few months! YEA!!!!

  • saphron37

I am also loving the flashback! Great update – Thanks again!

  • Pan

Great update as always…missing my season pass now more than ever…

  • disney_wendi

Great update!!! Makes me long to be walking down Main Street. Though I am glad we made the trip in December last year and October this year with the congestion the Candlelight Ceremony looks to be bringing in this month!

  • amyuilani

I wish they had waited until next year for the 20 days of Candlelight, when the Fantasyland Theatre would be open again. I don’t like that giant eyesore in front of the Town Square station for that long.

Thanks for the update. The photos were beautiful, as usual.

  • bummerkit

The flashbacks are interesting. I didn’t start really following DLR improvements and what not until a few years ago when my wife and I came here on our honeymoon. I love it now and keep up as much as I can. 🙂

  • lighttragic

Love the arhcives favorite part of my update

  • Lucky Oswald

I can’t wait to see the BVS decorations and hear the bell ringers (or singers). Although we weren’t selected for seats during Candlelight, we will still try to catch it standing room only.

Thx, as always for the weekly updates and pics!

  • The Yeti

Thanks for all of the News!! Hopefully the rain stays away as we are going to CandleLight on Saturday!!

  • ONealDisneyFamily

This update was very informative. If my family and I move to Virginia as planned next summer, we will miss Disneyland very much!

  • lyd1020

Wow…5 years!!! Congrats to all involved in providing so much useful information. This site is always a great source of the latest info at Disneyland. Thank you for keeping me and all other readers posted.

  • scenix

DCA has come a long way from two years ago. It seems like yesterday I was walking though DCA with construction walls everywhere.

  • Chocophile

While it’s wonderful getting some much-needed rain, how sad for the performances of Candlelight to be cancelled. Those lucky AP holders with tickets, the performers and guest narrator must have been terribly disappointed!

These articles help me feel connected, I do appreciate it!

  • Bangarangbrian

    Great update!

  • gilhooly

    Thanks for the update!

  • Quentin

Thanks for a great update. Only a few days left until Indiana Jones returns!!

A fun read. Looking forward to our visit next week.

  • Sleepy505

HAPPY 5th Anniversary Dateline Disneyland, Great update as well. Looking back in time I can still remeber those pictures when you first reported on them. I would just like to say Dateline has informed my family and I so much on current events and gave us so many helpful hints on our travels you all are all a blessing.

  • JonnyFairplay

    Great update as always.

  • Acpisme

    Great update! Thank you 🙂

  • clara

I have never noticed so much Candlelight merchandise before! But I love the coffee mugs.

I really enjoyed the look back in October 2010. I remember when they were building Ariel and totally missed the Tangled Meet and Greet. 🙁

There is a picture of the Mater Gingerbread in the DLR Holiday Treat photos thread. It looks amazing!

  • jdotcole

Glad I could be helpful this week! Maybe I can do it again in the future.

  • jenmurray

Thanks for the update folks! I always use one of your guys pics as my background on my computer. So every Monday I can’t to see what new pic is going up! 🙂

  • Heavenlee

Can’t wait! We arrive on Dec 8 and get to spend a whole week!!!

  • philosofy

Thanks for bringing back the ability to click and enlarge the photos in the article. I missed that the last few updates.

  • cwalter428

I love Christmas time at Disneyland. So wish I was going this year! Great information as always, and I love the trip down memory lane! DCA is such a better park now. Still waiting to see Carsland, though.

  • disneylandfan8

I can’t believe all the above photos are five years old! It really doesn’t seem like that long ago.

I was there Saturday-Wednesday and was lucky enough to get seats for the Sat. 7:30pm Candlelight and also the Sun. 7:30pm show, only to have both of them cancel after they had started. I was so glad that the performance that I had tickets for on Monday at 5:30pm wasn’t rained out and I got to see my very first complete Candlelight Processional with the man that I love the most, Kurt Russell, as the narrator. I ended up in the standby line for Tuesday’s 5:30pm performance and was lucky enough to get seats once again and saw another complete show with Kurt.

If anyone wants to see the Candlelight performances but doesn’t have a ticket, I highly recommend finding the standby line and waiting. There were empty seats each night.

But I wouldn’t think there will be any empty seats for Dick Van Dyke’s performance.

Looking forward to next week’s photos and report!

  • rikster

Once again a great update. Thanks for all the hard work it brings a little bit of Disneyland to Boise, ID

  • icleanblood

    Wonderful update! Thanks!

Amazing update! I’d love to see more of the Then And Now, even after the 5 year celebration is over!

  • matman

Wish I was there. Thanks for the update.

  • Stephanie N Torres

Glad I found this site, I’m sharing it with my sister who is going there next week. She has been taking her daughters there every year. I hope to take my grandchildren either this Christmas or sometime in February. Thaks for the updates, I love Disneyland.

  • Jadiesnow

Im so glad you got photos of the candle light merchandise. Their tumblers are so nice, makes me wish they’d look into creating new, year round, tumblers for drinks, since the current ones leave something to be desired.

  • kat3010

Pictures look so nice when its overcast out.

  • Tea

Thanks for the awesome update! I love the flashback!!

  • poohlahoop

Disneyland looks so amazing this time of year! Thanks for all the wonderful photos for those of us who can’t be there now except in spirit!

  • juhlian

I have another 12 years before I retire from UPS. Hope they will still be doing this then. Cause I never get to Disneyland until Xmas is over 🙁

Candlelight is an amazing experience that every Disney fan should experience at least once in their lifetime. So bummed we won’t see it this year.

I look frws to the every week…..
