Toy Story 4: The Search for Bo Peep 6/21/2019
Toy Story 4 has had its very own adventure in the making. First, John Lasseter had to take an enforced six-month leave of absence from Pixar and Disney, and Josh Cooley of InsideOut stepped in as director, then writing team Rashida Jones and Will McCormack left, citing “philosophical differences” and unhappiness over the alleged treatment of women and people of color at Pixar, replaced by Stephany Folsom, uncredited writer for Thor:Ragnarok and writer of a genius Black List screenplay about Stanley Kubrick faking the 1969 Moon Landings that Clark Gregg, Lance Reddick and Katherine Hahn. So…it should be really, really different and good.
Apparently, as mentioned at the beginning of Toy Story 3, Bo Peep got sold in a yard sale. According to hints people have picked up, there’s kind of a hippie-type mom that’s been cast, so maybe that’s who bought her. IGN notes that Don Rickles didn’t record any of his Mr. Potato Head lines before his death, so they’ll either kill him off, lose him or bring in a soundalike like they did for the late Jim Varney as Slinky Dog.
John Lasseter is back on the team, and in a soundbite for a UK paper, he notes that Bo Peep is like his wife Nancy. There is no mention of the past controversy; it seems that they are just going to concentrate on the film.
The First Solo Trailer!
We learn quite a bit from this trailer – how he gets his beloved blaster, exactly (to the year!) when this story takes place, based on Chewbacca’s age (190!), and see Chewie and another Wookiee giving each other a little affection. Could it be his wife? We’ll probably find out from all the spoilers that are going to leak from the Cannes Film Festival, where the film will make a non-competition debut shortly before its May 25 opening.
Solo Trading Cards at Denny’s
Denny’s is celebrating SOLO with an upcoming special menu, but they’re handing out SOLO trading cards NOW. In this ad, some kids play Sabacc – in fact, it’s the exact style that Han and Lando played – with betting cubes – when Han won the Milennium Falcon from Lando.
Donald Glover confirmed that they would be playing the game in the film: “Yeah, we are playing a game of sabacc. A lot of it, you know?” said Glover. “We are getting a taste of that. How good is Lando? How good is Han?”
Avengers:Infinity War 30-Minute Fan Showing
Well?
They loved it.
- “The Guardians’ taste in music is still A+” @awarman
- “…it was one hell of a trip seeing Marvel characters from all corners of the universe crossing paths. So much potential for humour, and the
@Russo_Brothers milked it for every penny.” @TomButler
- I’ve seen approximately 30 minutes of #Avengers: #InfinityWar, and while I don’t want to give anything away, I do want you to get even more excited. What I saw was fun, fast-paced, fan-pleasing and witty. And I’ll say this: it’s well worth rewatching all *18* previous films.”
They didn’t say much more, because the Russo Brothers asked them to keep mum with the hashtag #ThanosDemandsYourSilence.
“We’re asking that when you see Infinity War, in the coming months, that you maintain the same level of secrecy so that all fans can have an equal experience when they watch it for the first time,” the directors wrote last week. “Don’t spoil it for others, the same way you wouldn’t want it to be spoiled for you.”
Thanks to @DigitalSpy and Marvel Studios.
Dr. Strange is Coming to DCA!
Marvel Studios announced earlier this week that Master of the Mystic Arts Dr. Strange will be joining the wildly popular Black Panther making personal appearances at Disney California Adventure later this month. The exact date wasn’t revealed, but expect soft appearances any day now, and don’t be disappointed if the unscheduled appearances are cut short; they’re testing how long the Doctor can handle standing out there before he needs to take a break, and how well his clothing, made for the New York HQ, handles the California sun. As with all of the special characters whom we find at theme parks, please be patient and kind.
