Disneyland quietly raised prices while you were sleeping last night, by a substantial margin. The dramatic increase in price reflects the expected demand for the resort when Star Wars land opens later this year. Adding Maxpass will cost an additional $100 for all passes except Signature Plus (a $25 increase over 2018). Only the Signature Plus pass will have full availability to Disneyland for the entire year. The lower level passes (all but Signature Plus) will have two sets of block-out calendars, one for Disneyland and one for California Adventure. Parking jumps $5 to $25 per day. The high water mark for one-day parkhopper tickets is now $199.

Disneyland Resort Annual Passes

All passes have increased in price, most in line with last year’s large increase, except for Signature Plus which had a massive $250 increase.

Disneyland Resort Single Day Tickets

And here’s the increase for single day tickets:

Will this mix of price increases for Annual and Day passes do the trick of controlling Star Wars crowds? While it all seems like a huge jump for just one year, we have a feeling that nothing will stop the tremendous demand for Galaxy’s Edge.

In the past, raising prices on annual passes has only increased daily attendance as passholders attempt to wring more value out of their expensive passes by attending more often. So a price increase on those tickets may actually make Disneyland more crowded on unblocked days. And then there’s the issue of DCA having a separate block-out calendar which is sure to make it uncomfortably crowded on days that only Disneyland is blocked.

We’ve come a long way from this

What are your thoughts folks? Did Disney get it right? Will you be priced out? What are your alternative solutions to the rampant overcrowded of the resort in recent years and how much worse will it get once Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge opens in late spring/early summer?

OUR TIPS:

Before selecting which pass or day tickets are best for you in 2019, add up all the numbers. Figure out how many days you think you would actually visit Disneyland. Add the cost of parking for those days. Add the cost of meals and other items you might need to purchase during those trips. Do you need Maxpass? The Signature passes include parking. Signature Plus includes Maxpass. If you bought the Deluxe pass and plan to visit twice a month in 2019, parking would cost you $600 extra.  At that cost it would be cheaper for you to buy the Signature pass to save the cost of parking. If you are Signature and buy Maxpass only when you need it, but think you might need it frequently during the launch of Star Wars land and associated crowding, that’s $15 per visit. At the same 2 visits per month, that would be $360 extra. At that cost, Signature Plus would actually save you money. Think it through before purchasing.

Here are some other options to consider. you might want to wait entirely before buying your next annual pass. Purchasing a ticket offer in the short run will give you time to see the resort now and then wait until after the initial Star Wars rush is over before jumping back into a pass (if at all).  For many, a small number of visits a year are enough, why break the bank on a pass if you didn’t visit enough times to justify the cost of your pass last year?

Disneyland Promotion – Disneyland has just announced a special ticket offer through mid-May in which you can buy 3-day one-park tickets for as little as $210. There are options to add days, park-hopper, and Maxpass.  This may be an option for those of you who feel squeezed out of an annual pass.  More Information about the Disneyland Ticket Offer HERE

Discount tickets – MiceChat’s discount ticket partner regularly runs special prices on tickets to the Disneyland Resort as well as other area attractions and theme parks.
