MiceChat’s Aussie theme park reporter, Rya86n, attended the red carpet premiere of the Hallmark Channel’s movie release, Return to Nim’s Island. The event was appropriately staged at the Australia Zoo. The zoo is 100 acres and is located in the Australian state of Queensland on the Sunshine Coast. It is owned by Terri Irwin, the widow of Steve Irwin, whose wildlife documentary series The Crocodile Hunter made the zoo a popular tourist attraction. ~~Rick

This time last week, we were road tripping north to Australia’s very own equivalent to Disney’s Animal Kingdom; Australia Zoo.

So why visit Australia Zoo last weekend? As it’s home to star Bindi Irwin, it was also home to the Australian Premiere of the brand new feature film, Return To Nim’s Island!

Usually home to Crocodiles and the live shows made famous by Crocodile Hunter, Steve Irwin, today the Crocoseum will be turned into a Croc-cinema-seum for the film premiere.

But there’s plenty more fun to be had before the dusk screening!

New since my last visit was the very vast Africa Exhibit!

I was looking forward to seeing this ever since seeing it under construction a couple of years ago.

The day also allowed for visiting some old favourites.

After seeing some of the coolest animals, in Australia’s coolest back yard, it was time to get back to the reason we came here.

Return To Nim’s Island stars Toby Wallace & Bindi Irwin, with Nim At Sea author Wendy

‘Nim’, with another of the film’s stars.

There was still plenty of fun to be had before the movie.

VIP seats for Australia Zoo’s main event, the Croc show in the Crocoseum!

A special meeting with Mango, a simply delightful, irresistible four week old baby Rhino!

Meeting Dumbo (well, Australia Zoo’s Elephants, but forgive me for my Disney side coming out)

Finally time for a red carpet, and a surprise guest!

Then time for the movie!

Return To Nim’s Island is a tremendous movie (even if I’m a little biased). For those of you who missed Hallmark Channel’s exclusive World Premiere Screening last Friday (or even the Aussies who missed the Australia Zoo premiere), it is available on DVD in Walmart now, and will hit Australian Cinemas from April 4th. Be sure to check it out — and don’t forget to watch right through the credits! 😉

It’s been nearly 2 years since my last visit to Australia Zoo. We were there for Easter 2011, and after having the most fun I’ve had at an Aussie park, we now plan on going back next week for Easter 2013! It’s a must stop destination for any Mice Chatter’s trip down under! I cannot wait to Return to Australia Zoo.
