Disneyland announced that its long-anticipated Starbucks Coffee location will begin construction next month in Main Street, U.S.A.‘s Market House. The project will take over the Disneyana art and collectibles shop next door, bringing some notable changes to Main Street. Meanwhile, work continues on a major new stage show in the recently-vacated Fantasyland Theater and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad‘s major 10-month refurbishment project. Both parks will celebrate the Easter holiday this week with Limited Time Magic‘s “Spring Fling” offerings including Easter egg hunts and meet-and-greets with the Easter bunny.

Unfortunately, the beige tarp has returned to the top to Main Street Station to hide the parade lighting on top of the building. Not a big deal, but the building does look better without the beige cover.
Starbucks Shuffle |
Disney officially announced that the Market House will finally close in April to begin work on retrofitting the space for Disneyland’s new Starbucks location.
Disneyland has notified Cast Members working at the location that the Market House’s final day will be April 14.
Disney Social Media and Print Manager Erin Glover confirmed on the Disney Parks Blog that the expanded Market House will retain the potbelly stove, checkerboards and party line telephones.
What won’t survive the transition to Starbucks is the traditional free coffee refills. Perhaps this tradition could move over to the Jolly Holiday Bakery, but there’s been no word on this other than the Starbucks location will not offer free brewed coffee refills.
The announcement also included the news that the Market House would reclaim the space next door currently occupied by the Disneyana art and collectibles shop.
Disneyana just reopened after a full refurbishment last February, but the space will now close next month to become space for Starbucks.
The Disney Parks Blog post noted that Disneyana will be folded into the current Disney Gallery in Town Square. Cast Members, however, were told the Disney Gallery will be renamed as Disneyana during the transition and the gallery space currently reserved for Walt Disney Imagineering exhibits will be converted into Disneyana retail space.
We will see what happens, but what is certain is that Disneyana as we know it will cease to exist. This is a sad loss for a lot of park fans, but I’m not too upset over it. Ever since the Disney Gallery relocated to Town Square, Disneyana became redundant and a lot of its retail space was given over to Vinylmation, Marie Osmond’s dolls and duplicate merchandise and art that you could find at the Disney Gallery and at California Adventure’s Off the Page and Downtown Disney’s World of Disney store.
This may be your last chance to enjoy one of Main Street’s unique architectural details — a circular room originally designed for Swift, an opening-day park sponsor what originally sponsored the Market House. The room was designed to house a giant birthday cake display for Swift’s 100th Anniversary and became a circular art gallery of sorts when the space became part of Disneyana in the 1980s.
Soon, the Starbucks version of the Market House will occupy nearly a half a block on Main Street.
Back in Town Square, expect changes later this spring at the Disney Gallery.
A look at Fantasy Faire |
At the end of Main Street, Fantasy Faire continues to welcome guests as it continues through its first month of welcoming guests.
You might notice that the rooftops at Fantasy Faire appear to be fading already, not only a month old. Not to worry, the state of the rooftops look worse than they actually are — the clear coat has yet to fully cure and once it does the rooftops should look good as new again.
Meanwhile, wait times for princesses continue to balance out — wait times on Sunday morning around 11:00 am were a manageable 15 minutes.
Refurbishment Round-Up |
At the Refreshment Corner, the archway is starting to be reinstalled.
Big Thunder Mountain’s 10-month refurbishment continues…
The Mark Twain Riverboat’s refurbishment project continues as well…
In Fantasyland, the Fantasyland Theater continues to get ready for the new Mickey and the Magical Map show.

Vinylmation Easter Egg Hunt
at Disney California Adventure
March 18 — 24, 2013
Last week, Disney California Adventure hosted a Vinylmation Easter Egg Hunt that guests could participate in for about $5. The egg hunt consisted of a map with stickers that guests had to place based on large “eggs” hidden around the park. Once the sticker map was completed, you could redeem it for a set of two Vinylmation keychains at Elias and Co. While the prize wasn’t anything special, it seemed like a popular event and it looked like a lot of guests took a trip through the park to find the eggs.
Some of the hidden character eggs:
Guests randomly chose their prize — one of a number of different character Vinylmation keychains — at Elias and Co.

Limited Time Annual Passholder Magic Event
at Disneyland Park
March 22, 2013
Disneyland Annual Passholders were invited to enjoy a slideshow presentation with Disney Legend and Chief Archivist Emeritus, Walt Disney Archives, Dave Smith. The presentation, at the Main Street Opera House, took a historical look back at the park with rare color construction photos and slides of the park in its early days. Essentially, it was the same presentation that Dave Smith has offered at D23 events in the past, only this time it was offered for free to packed theaters of Annual Passholders.
It’s always good to hear from folks like Dave Smith who have been involved in either designing early Disneyland or documenting its history.
