The most exciting time of year at the Discovery Science Center is back! Bubblefest, which runs from March 28th to April 14th, is blowing back into town. What is Bubblefest? Well, it’s the most amazingly bubbly, bouncy, outdoor event of spring. Bubblefest lets kids and adults play with bubbles and learn the science behind these spherical wonders. There are two parts to the event. The outdoor festival area, and the indoor Mega Bubblefest Laser Show.
BUBBLEFEST XVII
The outdoor Bubblefest XVII is included with admission into the science center, and is quite a bit of fun.
The other portion of the Bubblefest is the Mega Bubblefest Laser Show. Housed in the large, white tent located on what is usually the parking lot, master bubble maker Deni Yang returns to dazzle visitors with a show of wild bubble creations, lasers, smoke, and music. The show is a $7 additional charge, $5 if you are e member. But the best thing to do is to buy your tickets ahead of time online here from the DSC website.
Yang, having been playing with bubbles since he could walk, says that he learned the craft of bubble building from his father, Fan Yang. “When I’m up there during the show,” Said Deni, “it feels like time stops.” It’s true, time seems to stand still when seeing the endless parade of air-filled orbs, in fascinating combinations. Yang’s interest is infectious, though it hardly needs to be as kids seem to be transfixed while the presentation is going on. Let’s take a look at the show now, shall we?
At one point two kids are asked to join Deni on stage to be part of a demonstration.
And then the grand finale comes. Remember that warning about a bubble shower? Yeah. They weren’t kidding. Deni takes the stage and then things go NUTS.
This has to be one of our favorite annual events in Southern California. Bubbles are just plain fun and the kids love it. The price is actually very reasonable considering there is still a massive multi-level Science Playground to go see once the bubble fun has worn off. We can give a glowing recommendation to the Science Center for big bubble beguilement.
