Happy Earth Day! Disneyland‘s Market House coffee shop closed last week to make room for the park’s upcoming Starbucks location. Building on the success of the hugely successful Fiddler, Fifer and Practical Cafe at Disney California Adventure, the classic Market House at Disneyland will expand into the Disneyana art shop, ensuring the cafe has space to handle big crowds when it reopens this fall. The space will retain its turn-of-the-century Main Street aesthetic but will serve the full selection of Starbucks coffee and espresso beverages, which should be a notable improvement over the shop’s previous menu. In Frontierland, the Mark Twain Riverboat has reopened following an extended refurbishment as Big Thunder Mountain Railroad continues through its major 10-month overhaul. Over at the Fantasyland Theater, the new Mickey and the Magical Map show continues to come together behind construction walls as it nears its late-May opening.

Welcome to Disneyland! |
Guests entering Disneyland last week were met with heightened security following the Boston Marathon bombing.
Flags at the Resort were at half-mast by order of President Obama in honor of the victims of the Boston tragedy.
Starting Starbucks |
At Disneyland, work is now underway to bring Starbucks to Main Street’s Market House coffee shop.
The windows at the Market House and Disneyana are blacked out during construction
Facade repainting and repairs were taking place Friday morning.
With Disneyana now closed to become space for the expanded Market House, some key Disneyana offerings have been relocated to the relatively small Disney Gallery art shop space.
Popular items like big figs and collectible figurines are now available at the Disney Gallery.
The Thomas Kinkade prints are now available at the Disney Gallery as well.
A artist sketch station has been moved to the Gallery shop space, replacing the big display of the Robert Olszewski Main Street, USA miniatures.
The Olszewski miniatures are still available, but displayed in a more efficient way.
Nearby, the Main Street Opera House is closed through May 2, with work in the exit lobby underway. A curtain up at the Mad Hatter hat shop blocks the Opera House exit lobby.
The exit lobby had been used in the past as a “pop-up” Disney Gallery when the Gallery was transitioning from New Orleans Square to Main Street a few years ago. Could we see the exit lobby become overflow Gallery retail space once again now that Disneyana has closed?
Refurbishment Round-Up |
In Frontierland, the Mark Twain Riverboat has emerged from its refurbishment looking beautiful.
Nearby, the 10-month Big Thunder Mountain Railroad refurbishment project continues…
In Fantasyland, the Fantasyland Theater’s new “Mickey and the Magical Map” show continues to come together behind construction walls. The new stage show is set to open later next month.
The Le Petit Chalet gift shop near the Matterhorn is now closed for refurbishment.
DOSH Downtime |
The DOSH-related closures we told you about last week continued with Space Mountain closed through the weekend. Space Mountain isn’t set to reopen until April 24, but that date has been in flux and could change.
The Matterhorn Bobsleds are open again along with Soarin’ Over California at California Adventure.
