As summer kicks off in Orlando, it is time once again to experience SeaWorld Summer Nights. And this year, with Antarctica, and an explosive new ending to Shamu Rocks, we have a lot to share.  Sit back, relax, and get ready to rock!

ANTARCTICA AT NIGHT

We have been covering Antarctica since ground broke 2 years ago.  We fell in love with Antarctica when it opened. When Brian Morrow promised us that the ice would glow at night, we were not prepared for how gorgeous this area would be.

With some theatrical lighting, the acrylic and fiberglass ice glow and radiate light.  It is stunning and surreal in person. My new favorite way to experience Antarctica is at night, followed by sunrise when you see the sun glow through the ice.

SHAMU ROCKS

We had heard rumors about fireworks coming to the end of Shamu Rocks, but we couldn’t really picture how they would be used.  SeaWorld has historically held a firework show at the Bayside Stadium every summer. So, when the main fireworks were moved to the end of Shamu Rocks, we were very curious how guests would react.

Shamu Rocks kicks off with a roaring soundtrack that engages the audience. With the whales jumping and splashing, it is hard not to be completely absorbed into this show!

Halfway into the show, an electric guitarist comes out and starts riffing live, pumping up the audience even more.  As the audience is cheering and dancing along to the music, fireworks start exploding into the sky behind the stadium, sending the audience into an almost frenzied state of cheering!  It was truly an electric feeling that pictures and videos cannot capture.  I was not prepared for how the audience would react and connect with the show with the fireworks at the end. It was electric!

It was clear by the sheer roar of the crowd that everyone enjoyed this new ending.

SEALIONS TONIGHT

Every year, the entertainment team puts together a hilarious lampoon of all the other shows and attractions that guests see in the park throughout the day.

This show is hilarious, and had the audience roaring at the end.  Sea Lions tonight is reason enough to go to SeaWorld this summer!

With Antarctica and all the offerings for Summer Nights, you need to set aside an evening to experience SeaWorld after dark on your next visit to Orlando.

Great article Eric. Antarctica at night looks stunning. Interesting shots of Fireworks during Shamu Rocks as well.

Has anyone else seen this trailer for the killer whale documentary Blackfish? It is TERRIFYING.

    • KingEric

It is also inaccurate, and drives a narrative that doesn’t reflect reality.

  • Athlonacon

Wild animals don’t like to be kept in captivity, just like people don’t like it. Blackfish is probably a little overdone, but it gets the point across.

    • KingEric

But thanks to SeaWorld there have been over 20,000 animals that have been rescued and returned to the wild! So it is with great thanks to the 20 whales that are in captivity that the over 20,000 animals have been able to survive and thrive!

Ok I have to admit the finale of Shamu Rocks looked a bit lackluster to me. I was expecting the whales to be doing jumps and stuff while the fireworks went off. That would have been epic. I guess I’ve been spoiled with Kinetix at Busch Gardens and their crazy acrobatics, which is a constant high-energy show.

Antarctica at night looks really pretty though!

Amy… You take me to Busch Gardens Summer Nights, and I will take you to SeaWorld Summer Nights, and we will have a theme park Fan Boy/Girl Off! lol

I just wish Sea World would allow guests to view the penguins without having to wait in a multi-hour line for a lame ride first.

    • KingEric

Well it isn’t just a habitat. It is an entire experience and journey. Wait until the crowds die down a bit, and then go an experience it. If you wait 15 – 30 mins you will feel that it is completely worthwhile.

I really love Antarctica, and I think it is an amazing experience.

The new lack of a fireworks show is pathetic and it’s obvious this change was done for purely budget reasons. Adding fireworks to the end of Shamu Rocks does not make a fireworks show. Bah. Color me unimpressed.

As for Antarctica, wow. Great photos of the place at night, Eric! I love how it looks at night. Gives me the feeling of how amazing WDW’s New Tomorrowland used to look at night back in ’94. Tell me, did they add any Antarctica jokes to Sea Lions tonight. It’s pretty easy to make fun of that ride.
