Universal Orlando Resort is looking jolly. Christmas decorations are now up around the resort, CityWalk construction is pressing ahead at full steam, Diagon Alley gets more details by the day, and we have an extra special interview with Super Fan Thomas J Wagner who has been visiting Universal Orlando since its opening year.

Universal Orlando Resort Christmas

Christmas decorations continue to go up at Universal Studios as they prepare to kick off the Christmas celebration on December 7th.  The main Entry Plaza, New York streets, and Hollywood section have all been decked out with decorations as they provide the backdrop for the park’s Macy’s Holiday Parade.

Diagon Alley Details

The details on the facades at Diagon Alley have been going up more rapidly these past few weeks, and now they are beginning to get some color and detail sculpting.  These facades are really turning out to be beautiful.

Starbucks

Now that Red Oven Pizza Bakery is open, Starbucks construction is hitting full speed with all the walls now torn out and the ground prepped for the cement to be poured.

Don Quixote

The facade for the venue rumored to be Don Quixote. This new facade will be a stylistic change from the rest of CityWalk and on a larger scale.  We should be seeing a lot more changes coming to CityWalk over the next year which will more closely match the scale of this construction.

  1. Thanks for another great update. Gringotts looks amazing now that it has some color. I never noticed the brick detail before the paint. The CityWalk holiday decorations on the other hand, I wouldn’t have known what I was looking at unless you told me. Maybe it looks better at night :)

Is the new kiosk just for adverts or is Amex doing something specific there?

  2. Is there an exact date or at least month when Diagon Alley and the Hogwarts Express will open?

THANK YOU for the update Eric!

I keep waiting for a “Universal Orlando has been outdoing Disney in Florida” article in the mainstream media. C’mon NBC, don’t you think ABC would do this, at least on a fluffy, entertainment-filled morning show?

    • Just “Spring 2014″.
IIRC, they thought WWoHP would open in Spring 2010, but ended up being mid-June.

  3. Eric any update on what other sites are reporting about possible Red Oven Pizza express counters for both parks?

Seeing all the construction going on at Universal Studios gives me concern about crowd flow. All the most popular rides seem to be in one area of the Park. I think for the next phase we need something big to be fitted in the area holding Hollywood and the Kidzone to spread crowds out. Hoping it will be kept family friendly and not something like the Hunger Games. Expanding the presence of Despicable Me would be my preferred choice.

Eric can you get some pictures of the Christmas merchandise when it comes into stores.

  4. Thanks for the pictures and update Eric. Keep them coming.

Does anyone know if Universal is invested in Lowes Hotels (or are they partners)? I assume they’re not, but they must get a decent take of the money coming in for rooms at their facilities. It seems odd to me that you have to go to an offsite website to book a Universal hotel. Perhaps CaptainAction has some insights on this?

    Thanks again Eric.
