Each year, Walt Disney World offers one of the prime attractions from the upcharge Very Merry Christmas Party to regular day guests with no special ticket needed. This only happens in the Christmas week itself (and shortly thereafter), and the parade is run in the daytime rather than at night. My present to you this year is a photo tour of that parade, without a longer commentary from me.

OK, one commentary after all. We noticed Santa calling out names as he made he way down the street. I assume he was just using common names and hoping to be right every so often, but it occurs to me that this would be a really neat use of MagicBands. Santa could call out your real names (and home cities)–adding substantially to the illusion.

I felt bad for the performers; it was 86 degrees when this parade was running, and some of those costumes looked hot!

And that’s our Christmas parade photo report for you from the Magic Kingdom. Wishing each of you a safe and wonderful holiday.

  1. Great photos and a sense of being there. Thanks so much.

Dobby suggests that the weather is one reason I should think of retiring to WDW. I think Furry CMs should get double pay when the temperature goes over some minimum level. Transferring our cultural traditions of a Cold Climate Christmas to southern latitudes has always been a bit incongruous — I feel like calling PETA on behalf of those chipmunks and reindeer!

  2. Kevin — Do you know how I can watch the Christmas parade? Do they play this on Christmas Day? I get confused. I remember years ago seeing Disney parades on TV. But I can’t remember if it was Easter or Christmas. My family got some really bad news this week about our dog having cancer in her back legs and I am holding off on telling my boys until after the holidays. The parade pics you posted made me so happy. I’d like to put the parade on TV for the boys if I knew when it was on. I think they’d love it and it would help shoulder the bad news that I have to give them a week or so from now.

Thanks for all of your wonderful columns this year and for any help you can give in locating that parade on TV.
