Cars Land is certainly a visual feast. The craftsmanship and design are pretty amazing. They capture nicely the look and feel of a sleepy town along Route 66. But as everyone knows, the American roadway is known for neon. Bright tubes of light beacon weary travelers into the comfort of their restaurants, their hotels and inns.
Cars Land pays homage to these signs with loving detail and reverence. And, while the new addition to Disney California Adventure is impressive, it truly shines at night. Here we offer a look at some of the more beautiful uses of lighting and neon.
Every evening at about 8pm, the Shaboom Shaboom song plays evoking a scene from Cars in which the night life began in the sleepy little town. Then, beginning at the courthouse, each store fronts lights flicker to life.
The area in front of the courthouse has several different little signs in front of the different storefronts.

RADIATOR SPRINGS CURIOS
This concludes our nocturnal neon escapades for this week. The passion and genuine love for the lost art of neon is abundantly apparent here. We find this to be a wonderful showcase of expert design and encourage all who visit Radiator Springs to slow down and soak in the atmosphere after sun down.
Bob Gurr Luncheon and Book Signing Event – June 30th
One of our all time favorite Disney Imagineers is Bob Gurr, father of the Monorail, Autopia, Matterhorn, and just about every Disney attraction with wheels. He’s a true legend and an all around nice guy. And lucky for us, there is a limited opportunity for you to grab a copy of his new book and join him for lunch at the Anabella Hotel (just behind DCA and next to the Anaheim Convention Center) on June 30th.
We’ve just learned that the limited collectors edition (the red edition) of Bob’s book, Design Just For Fun, has now sold out! BUT we’ve got 100 copies of that edition waiting for those who attend this event!!! These are the last 100 red collectors edition copies available.Bob plans to share some wonderful tales, answer attendee questions, and meet with everyone to sign their book!
