With summer crowds descending on Orlando, SeaWorld keeps moving right along with it’s construction projects. Sea World Orlando recently opened the wonderful Turtle Trek 4D, but they are still very heavily involved in other major projects throughout the park.  This includes their new Mega Attraction for 2013, Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin, as well as a new Dine with Shamu.

ANTARCTICA CONSTRUCTION
At Antarctica, we find construction crews working to expand what was the old Penguin Habitat. When complete, the penguins will have a much larger home. While we’ll have to wait until 2013, the scale of this project is said to be SeaWorld’s Harry Potter. We shall have to wait and see.

When this land does finally open in 2013, the faded tile facade that was once there will be a forgotten memory.

DINE WITH SHAMU
Little visible progress has been made over at the Dine with Shamu experience. They are continuing the research and development of the rising floor.

BLUE HORIZONS SHOW CHANGES
On June 4th, SeaWorld Orlando sadly announced that Jozu, their last remaining False Killer Whale, passed away. It is sad to see her go, and her loss has had a very big impact on the Blue Horizons show.

The show’s 3rd Act, The Storm/Majesty of the Sea, relied 100% on the appearance of a “villain” whale that would then turn out to be just another friend though initially misunderstood.

With Jozu now gone, the Majesty of the Sea number has been completely removed for now, and the show now moves directly into the finale.

Our hearts go out to the trainers who worked with Jozu every day.  And we hope that SeaWorld Orlando will be able to return Blue Horizons to it’s original show format soon.
