  1. Very interesting interview about one of my favorite Disney attractions. There is just something magic about this ride! It truly is the heart and soul of the Disney Hollywood Studios and sets the thematic tone for the entire park.

Sadly, the rumor mill is picking up steam about this location being redeveloped. It seems that the Imagineers want to keep the Chinese Theater facade on the front, but replace the ride inside as part of a Pixar Place expansion. I’ve heard conflicting things about the ride (either Ratatouille or Monsters Inc), though both would be fairly large budget endeavors. Though, I think that an update of the Great Movie Ride would be better for the long term cohesiveness of the park, it looks likely that another Disney icon is on the verge of falling.

Give my regards to da warden, Mugsy!

    • No! Say it ain’t so!! I’ll be heartbroken if they take this out- it’s one of my all-time favorites! D:

  2. Thanks for taking us behind the movies, Ryan! Always been one of my favorite attractions and one I wish I could’ve worked on, so that’s for letting us live vicariously through you.

I do have one question regarding the AA from the Alien scene. Is Ridley the nickname for the Sigourney Weaver character from Alien? Or is that a nod to the direction Ridley Scott?

    • That was my bad, it was a typo! It’s supposed to RIPLEY, her character name!

  3. Interesting – I always thought it was “Ripley”, not “Ridley”! Oops!

Thanks for the article on my favorite DHS attraction. I’d be really upset if they removed this for another coaster or Pixar ride. I agree, the lack of maintenance especially on the Aliens scene is disheartening. How much can it cost for them to spruce it up for 2 weeks?

    • No, you’re right, that was a typo on my end! It IS Ripley. The Alien nerd in me is ashamed, haha

  4. This is a wonderful ride and is one of the only reasons I visit this park. I really hope they don’t take it out but instead repair those things that need to be fixed. And while they are at it, take that darn hat out of their hub area too!!
