We’re trying something new with our MiceAge Updates today. Rather than save up a bunch of small items over the course of 4 or 5 weeks, we’d like to bring you more frequent individual news items as they become available. Be sure to check back daily as brand new news, rumor and gossip may pop up any day and at any time.

We’ve got some good news for you today about a new nighttime parade for Disneyland’s 60th.

It looks like Disneyland will be getting a new night parade for the 60th after all. When the MyMagic+ cost overruns at Disney World forced the Orlando execs to ring the alarm bell last fall and confess to Burbank that things weren’t going as planned, a spending freeze forced most Disneyland projects to be put on hold or be cancelled outright. Included in that spending freeze were all the big plans for Disneyland’s 60th Anniversary that begins next spring. But TDA has been working on loosening Burbank’s purse strings (while Disney World remains mostly in the dog house), and one of the latest successes has been a modest amount of money poured back into Anaheim’s 60th Anniversary budget.

A new night parade for Disneyland recently got the green light and will be included in the 60th menu of offerings. Steve Davison (the man behind so many of Disney’s popular nighttime spectaculars) and his team will be working furiously to pull it all together. While the parade won’t have the same budget and grand scale that it was originally planned for a year ago, at least Disneyland will now have more to market for the 60th than just a décor package and the Christmas star returning to the top of the Matterhorn. The continuing plans to upgrade all five Fantasyland dark rides will also serve as an attraction component of the 60th, while the night parade anchors the entertainment component.

This may not be the news you were hoping for, but considering the circumstances, this is actually pretty good news for Disneyland fans.

I am very hopeful with the news of a new parade. I think the key is MUSIC. If a great “catchy” theme song can be written to give character and class to the new parade, I am all for it. I am tired of them reusing themes like Wishes to do new spectaculars. Of course, all the separate floats should have music, but a theme to tie it together like with MSEP, that would be great.

I am glad that we will get a new parade for the 60th. Hopefully even more funds will be opened up to make it a spectacular celebration.
Having updates more often, yeah I am all for that. I just wish I could stop thinking about Disneyland every day. I need a cure.

Be nice to get a new parade. Love the daytime parade. But for the 60th, in my opinion, would be great if the park looked refreshed. Paint is cheap so why not touch up things to make them bright and shiney. Things like too town, all of tomorrowland the small world facade, the list goes on. If we are not getting anything new then fix what we have for now.

I agree, in my opinion the two most major things I want to see repainted in time for the 60th is Toontown and its surrounding hills, and of course, Sleeping Beauty Castle. Now I know what your thinking, the Castle looks fine… yes but not as fine as it did by the 2004 repaint. In the ten years since its last repainting, the deep pink color has faded, the blue rooftops have been a little sun bleached and they are quite dirty if you look up close, and the multi-color bricks at the base, have reverted to a more grey color. I would really love to see the Castle given fresh pinks, and blues.

I would much prefer if we received a new daytime parade instead. At least for DCA! The Pixar play parade has been going on now for 6 years! As much as I love it, we need something new. Same goes for Soundsational. I wish we would get a replacement for it has been going on for almost 4 years. A new nighttime parade isn’t too much of a priority. If they did want one, then I see now real problem with MSEP.

I was told by a CM that this week that TDO is now running the parks on both coasts. We all know CMs are not reliable sources of information but it looks more and more with merchandising and other things that TDO is indeed running things for California. If true this is horrible as TDO clearly does not understand California. I am just curious on others thoughts.

I am happy that they are making a new parade. I feel MSEP should stay in Florida.

I also got a chance to walk through New Orleans Square this week to see how much damage the Club 33 will cause on this special area. with the exception of the Court of Angels I personally think this will continue to be a special part of the park.

I’ll take a new nighttime parade only if they scrap the crowd making fireworks show. It was ok for the 50th Anniversary but it has outlived its magic.

    Thanks for the update.

As much as we hate to admit it the Disney Co. is publicly owned and performance (read $$$) is important to stockholders. WDW get many more people and more spending per guest than DLR. Remember just a few years ago over a billion dollars was spent fixing DCA. And for anyone who has been to WDW recently you know that DTD and the parks need some attention.

While I like Magic Bands when at WDW I don’t know how they expect to measure attendance increases and dollars spent and link it to Magic Bands. The world economy is getting better and people are spending more money. How do you separate the differences? Are more people really going and spending more just because of Magic Bands?

When a new parade is designed they expect it to last at least five years and hopefully close to ten. While it would seem easy to plan a parade and build a few floats, it actually takes years. Besides the concept ideas they have to prepare sketches and scale models. Then the idea gets pitched to executives. If they get approval it has to be budgeted. Then there is new music, costumes, programming the sequence how the parade moves through the park, building the floats and casting. Being locals’ means we see the same thing a few times and get bored. But for someone who saves up for a trip that they may get only once every five years, it’s a big deal.

For the 60th I trust Mary Nevin will give us a good show. Maybe not as big as the 50th but still good.

For Star Wars with more movies planned you can bet they will somehow capitalize on them in the parks.

I like the idea of upgrading the dark rides in Fantasyland. Seeing how the dwarfs look in the mine coaster ride, they can make all the characters really come to life now. Also, that London scene in Peter Pan is cheap looking. I thought it was an actual little city with real lights and things when I was a kid. I saw it recently and it was a fake looking fluorescent painted city.

speaking of the 6oth anniversary–does anyone know any specific dates for the celebration? I would love to plan a trip.

Just a guess but I would think the big activities would be centered around July 17.
