Last week we waxed poetically about all plots princessy, but this week is a pirate’s paradise! There’s no shortage of adventures for the scallywag in your life at the Most Magical (turned Miscevious!) Place on Earth!
Accommodations
What better place for a pirate to lay his head than upon his own ship at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort in a Pirates of the Caribbean themed guest room? Decked out with treasures around every corner and two beds fit for Captain Jack himself, these rooms are lots of fun for the whole crew! Scoundrels will also love the Flying Jib slide at Stormalong Bay, the huge pool at Disney’s Yacht and Beach Clubs, so consider spending your trip at one of these deluxe options.
Pirate Cruises
Speaking of the Yacht Club, little pirates will love the Albatross Treasure Cruise leaving the Yacht Club Marina on select mornings during the week. Kidlets 4-12 (and potty trained!) will embark on an approximately two-hour kids-only voyage with Disney pirate guides and rescue their treasure just before reigning in their adventure back at the marina. Each pirate gets his or her own pirate gear, a snack and a share of the treasure. At just under $35 a head, this is a great option for kiddos (and grown-ups) looking for a little time on their own.
Get Park Wise: Pirate cruises also depart from Caribbean Beach, Port Orleans Riverside and the Grand Floridian. Looking for a deluxe option? Consider the Contemporary’s Pirates and Pals Fireworks Voyage for refreshments, a fireworks cruise and character meet and greets with Captain Hook, Smee and Peter Pan.
Attractions
While not quite measuring up to its California counter part, Magic Kingdom’s Pirates of the Caribbean is not to be missed if your first mate is a pirate fan. While in Adventureland, head to The Crow’s Nest to join in on a treasure raid! Complete all five of Captain Jack’s missions, and you’ll be officially part of the crew. A really big pirate fan? Head over to Hollywood Studios to check out The Legend of Captain Jack Sparrow. This walk-through puts you right in the middle of virtual pirate fun. But, seriously, you should be a major pirate fan, otherwise, it’s a bit of a snore. But it will get you a shot of AC if it’s hot out.
Characters
Again, Magic Kingdom and Hollywood Studios are your stops to spot a few of your favorite pirates. Magic Kingdom’s Festival of Fantasy and Electrical Parade both offer up Hook and Smee, whom you can also occasionally catch at Hollywood Studios or Epcot for meet and greets.
Hollywood Studios is home to Jake, and you have two chances to catch this cutie, both at Hollywood and Vine and in the Animation Courtyard. Captain Jack, aside from skulking around Pirates of the Caribbean, typically only hangs out for extended meet and greets during Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, but you can catch him across from Pirates of the Caribbean during the pirate tutorial!
Pirates League
Pirates aged 3 and up can become an full-fledged member of the Pirates League at Magic Kingdom! Big and little pirates can earn their pirate name, sport a new pirate look, take the pirate oath and emerge an official pirate in just under an hour. Packages start around $30 for all ages and are customizable with costumes, accessories and more.
Get Park Wise: All pirates are invited back to participate in the Pirate Parade (usually around 4:30, weather permitting) and Captain Jack’s Pirate Tutorial, so don’t wander too far!
