Knott’s Berry Farm is in full haunt swing.  But that isn’t all that is going on at this classic Southern California Theme park.  There is the kid-friendly Camp Spooky that children can enjoy during the day.  And, for more adventurous rug rats, The Witch’s Keep overlay of the Calico Mine Ride is running during the day as well as at the Halloween Haunt. We see that there is progress at La Revolucion in Fiesta Village and we move on to the larger project that appears to be happening over in the Boardwalk/Roaring 20’s area of the park.  Could a dark ride be on its way back to this beloved park?  We round things out with a trip through the Knott’s Marketplace and a stop at the brand new Cable Car Kitchen sandwich shop that has replaced Pink’s Hot Dogs.

Camp Spooky

Knott’s Berry Farm is known for its wonderful Halloween Haunt.  But they also throw together a nice little, kid friendly haunt during the day on certain weekends in Camp Snoopy.  Known as Camp Spooky, lil’ monsters can explore a kid-style maze, enjoy trick or treating, and more.

Weekends in October and on Halloween Day, Knott’s Berry Farm invites families to join in on the Halloween fun at Camp Spooky. This daytime, non-scare Halloween celebration features shows, activities, costume contest and more, all geared for kids ages 3-11.

The Camp Spooky Theatre presents the Peanuts Gang in The Monsters are Coming, Charlie Brown.

Kids of all ages can complete fun obstacle challenges as they make their way through the Mini Monster Maze and are rewarded with sweet treats at the exciting end. Spooky interactive photo opportunities are sure to create lasting memories in this section of Camp Spooky. Create your own unique monster creation in the Mummy’s Manor. Step through the mysterious mirrors of Medusa’s Bug Boutique filled with real creepy crawlers. Bring your friends to the Witch’s Tea Party and warm up near the cackling cauldron.

The intense scares aren’t for everyone. It’s nice to see Knott’s making room for the little monsters too.

La Revolucion

Fiesta Village will soon have a popular flat ride back as La Revolucion’s refurbishment walls have come down from around the attraction.  Most notable are the blue wrought iron barriers that have replaced the previous fencing.

The Witches Keep

Many also are not aware that the Calico Mine Ride remains haunted during the day as The Witch’s Keep.  This is actually a very retro experience that is kind of fun.

Boardwalk Ride Construction

The biggest news this week comes as we see major construction continuing on what we assume to be a family dark ride that will be going into the space above the arcade and Johnny Rocket’s.

You can still see the old Kingdom of the Dinosaurs Hollywoodland mural.

Yep, Hollywoodland.

Pretty much the entire walkway up to the ride platform is gone.

Knott’s Marketplace

Now we bring you news from the Knott’s Marketplace.  It seems that it’s never too early for Christmas at the Emporium.  But now, the Window displays and nearly the entire store have succumbed to the holiday. It’s strange to see Christmas taking over so early, especially since Knott’s is in full Halloween mode.

Further along the way more Christmas Trees have been installed as decoration on the displays.

Incidentally, have you tried the Berry Market preserves? OMG so delicious. All natural too.

Virginia’s Gift Shop

And we then come to Virginia’s Gift Shop.  Rumored to be in the running for a full refurbishment for years now, this sad shop is a shadow of its former self. A complete redo is badly needed here.

IMG_0232
The vacuous retail selections range from Old Dog Rules apparel to DC Comics characters.
IMG_0231
No, that is not trim on the floor. It’s tape.

The condition of Virginia’s Gift Shop really needs to be addressed if Knott’s wants to make any money from this store. It is sitting on some prime real estate, right in front of the park and could make a killing if properly handled.  Let’s hope they address this “Church Basement” soon.

Cable Car Kitchen
Ending the update on a very positive note, we bring news that a brand new eatery has opened in the space formerly occupied by Pink’s Hot dogs.  We were sad to see the iconic wiener house go, but the new offerings are insanely delicious.

Overall the new Cable Car Kitchen is a nice new addition to the Marketplace shops.  We can’t wait to return.

That sums things up for our tour of the farm. We’ll see you again real soon!
