Winter is coming! Frozen is a year old and Disneyland is finally giving into guest demand with a lineup of new entertainment and attraction additions based on the hit animated film. Starting December 20, Frozen Fun will bring a variety of offerings to Disney California Adventure‘s Hollywood Land including a snow play area, a sing-along stage show, and character meet-and-greets as well as a new nighttime dance party. While most of the Frozen Fun avalanche will hit California Adventure, Disneyland will also get in on the action, including the addition of a new permanent Frozen-themed vignette in Fantasyland‘s classic Storybook Land Canal Boats. Meanwhile, the holidays continue at full steam into December with Candlelight lighting up the night over the weekend and a wonderful new gingerbread house at the Grand Californian Hotel.
Welcome back! We’re back after a taking a couple weeks off to enjoy a vacation break at Walt Disney World. We’ll have thoughts on the Vacation Kingdom of the World as well as Universal Orlando’s spectacular Wizarding World of Harry Potter in next week’s update. Until then, I’d like to extend a big thank you to Norman Gidney and the In the Parks crew for filling in with special Disneyland updates while we were away!

Welcome to Disneyland! |
The holidays season continues as we move quickly into December…
New in the hub this year, little trees with little red ornaments. A cute festive touch.

Meanwhile, California Adventure’s Buena Vista Street is as perfect a holiday escape as Main Street, U.S.A.

Let it Glow |
Over the weekend, Disneyland held its Candlelight Processional in Town Square.
Narrated by Beau Bridges, Candlelight lit up Main Street and Town Square in a beautiful pageant of light, music, and the story of Christmas.
Thanks to our good friend David Daut for these great Candlelight photos.
Freezing Over |
Late last week Disney much–rumored “Frozen Fun” event coming to the Disneyland Resort theme parks later this month. Officially opening January 7th, the line-up of entertainment and attraction overlays in both parks is set to mostly open by December 20, just in time for Christmas week, which is typically the resort’s busiest time of the year.
While most of the Frozen Fun offerings will be available on a temporary basis, the village of Arendelle will be added permanently to Disneyland’s classic Storybook Land Canal Boats ride, replacing the Old Mill vignette, a classic scene based on the 1937 Silly Symphonies short.
The Storybook Land Canal Boats and Casey Jr. Circus Train are currently closed while the Frozen additions are installed.
Meanwhile, in Fantasy Faire, the Tangled and Beauty and the Beast shows will go on hiatus while a new Frozen show is offered exclusively.
The majority of the Frozen Fun offerings, however, will be found in Disney California Adventure’s Hollywood Land. With Mad T Party now closed, a new Frozen-themed “Freeze the Night” dance party will utilize the existing Mad T Party infrastructure. Work is now underway sanding, repainting, and re-dressing the Mad T Party setup.
The art deco entryway to the “Hollywood Studios” part of Hollywood Land is getting a repaint and renaming.
The Mad T Party entry portal will be repurposed and repainted to match a Frozen theme.
Lots of simple repainting and redressing underway. This doesn’t exactly look like a big-budget affair.
In Stage 17, an Olaf-themed snow play area will open up along with an Olaf meet-and-greet, merchandise and food offerings.
And over at the Muppet*Vision Theater, the Muppets have been evicted for a new Frozen sing-along stage show. There’s no word on if the Muppets will ever return following the run of the Frozen Fun event. With some Muppet-themed props in the queue already removed, it doesn’t seem likely.
Over in the Disney Animation building, the Toy Story Zoetrope is gone to clear out the Character Closeup space for a meet and greet with Anna and Elsa.
With Anna and Elsa at California Adventure, their Fantasyland-based meet-and-greet is expected to close.
Frozen Fun is currently set to run from January 16 through May 15, 2015, with early openings of most features starting December 20. With Disneyland’s 60th Anniversary launching on May 15, expect Frozen Fun to get a “due to popular demand”-style extension and be incorporated into Disneyland’s anniversary offerings… that is, assuming the Frozen Fun offerings are a the runwaway hit with the public that Disney is expecting them to be.
Refurbishment Roundup |
Royal Remodel
Back in Disneyland, the Royal Courtyard is still closed for reconstruction. The doors to the courtyard were completely closed on Friday, blocking any views of the work underway.
Mark Twain
Nearby, the Mark Twain is back on the Rivers of America after a nice refurbishment.
Food Fixes
In Fantasyland, the outdoor vending cart across from the Village Haus is back after a total rebuild.
Canal Closure
Meanwhile, Casey Jr. and Storybook Land are closed while Frozen moves in…
Tarps are up to block views of construction

And over in Disney California Adventure, the Bakery Tour is still closed for its major remodel.
