Marvel’s Agent Carter begins its seven-episode run tonight with a two-hour movie (making it the first of this generation’s female superhero movies). One of the people who make the Marvel Magic is Christopher Lennertz, who composed the score for the series. You might have heard his work on Supernatural or on the Marvel one-shots Agent Carter and Item 47. Or Alvin and the Chipmunks. Or The Horde. Or Revolution. Or, if you’re a gamer, MADDEN. It’s hard to tell who is the bigger audience for Lennertz’ work. Both the films and the games he’s worked on have included some juggernauts.

“I grew up with Star Wars and Indiana Jones and E.T.,” Lennertz explains, “so I love those genre movies. I love fantasy, not just dark fantasy, but things that are really fun.” Like, perhaps, Galavant – he worked with Alan Menken on the music. I asked him, since he was a child of the 80’s, how exciting was it to work with – Weird Al: “I had Eat It! I had the single – on vinyl!” he proclaimed (me too!) “He is SO COOL.”

Coming up next: The Wedding Ringer with Kevin Hart and Josh Gad (you know, OLAF?) and another project with Alan Menken that I’m going to be writing about in the coming weeks.

As for keeping Marvel’s plot twists and secrets from his pals: “I’m lucky that most of them are in the business, so they know what’s happening. But, yeah, it’s like when your sister is trying to get you to tell her what you got her for Christmas.” So, he can keep a secret – and enjoy it.

Speaking of Marvel, it’s never to late to plan ahead, and this year, we will be doing the CHOC Walk in October with a Marvel theme. If you’re going as Agent Carter, and I’m talking to YOU, Dusty, I’d eschew the heels. Keep your eyes peeled for more details at the end of summer.
