As previously announced, the Disney Cruise Line will be deploying the Disney Magic to the land of all things Frozen in Norway and Iceland this summer from June to August 2015. Disney has now detailed what its Port Adventures – including a very special one with Queen Elsa, Princess Anna and Kristoff along for the ride – will look and even taste like once off-board.
Ålesund
Exclusive to Disney will be a Norwegian summer celebration at the Sunnmøre Open Air Museum in Ålesund. Guests will witness the arrival of the royal sisters from Frozen and be greeted by Anna, Elsa and Kristoff, making their first appearance in the destination that inspired their fairytale. Festivities include dancing to local musicians and tasting Norwegian sweets such as svele, a traditional pancake.
Also in Ålesund is another shore excursion available only to Disney Cruise Line guests with a visit to a Viking Village on the Island of Giske. There, passengers will discover the historic Viking landscape, meet the village chieftain and Norse families, and experience the local traditions, food and games, as well as crafts by making their own leather bags.
Olden
On another Disney exclusive excursion, adventurers will depart Olden for a Norwegian Fjord Horse Center, home to the titular Norwegian Fjord Horse. Guests will tour the stables to see and interact with the animals up close. Amidst the scenery, the horses will be displayed in a riding performance and carriage ride showing off their grandeur.
Kristiansand
A Norwegian Cooking Experience will be available uniquely to Disney in Kristiansand. Before enjoying Nordic specialties paired with a glass of wine, participants will prepare their own wild game filets and krumkaker, a typical Christmastime waffle cookie.
Geiranger
Gjaera Mountain Farm‘s local family will uniquely share daily life with Disney guests as youth counselors guide children to make stamped pillows in the farm’s printing studio with the family’s generational wooden stamps. At the same time, adults visit the farm’s microbrewery and enjoy its beers before all ages join together to taste local Nordic cuisine from the farm like juices, breads, creams and cured meats.
On the way to a different Herdalsetra Mountain Farm, travelers can take in the sights of the folkloric Geirangerfjord and the Seven Sisters waterfall. Open to touring, the farm is composed of 30 farmhouses and populated with more that 450 goats. Guests will sample the farm’s cheeses including Norway’s brown cheese, which is similar to sweet fudge.
For those looking for more active adventures, cruise passengers can Kayak through the Geirangerfjord, where sights along the way include beautiful waterfalls and mountains.
Molde
Finally in Norway, Molde presents the “town of roses” and one of the largest folk museums in Norway, the Romsdal Open Air Museum. Among the site’s more than 50 buildings, guests can view the gardens, farmhouses, smokehouses and a chapel. Animating the scene will be Norwegian folk dancing by local children in traditional clothing.
Reykjavik, Iceland
In Reykjavik, only Disney guests can visit a Local Lava Field and get artistic by using genuine lava to make framed lava art while gazing into the craters and fields that compose Iceland.
A Tour of The Golden Circle will feature Iceland attractions such as a national park, a waterfall, hot springs and a geothermal energy exhibition. Exclusive to Disney, a barbecue lunch will be served in the woods while, according to the cruise line, “troll wife Gryla and her helpers tell the legend of troll giant Bergthor of Bláfell, whose exceptionally large grave, headstone and ring from his walking stick can be found in a nearby churchyard.”
