In what is becoming a yearly tradition, my family and some fellow MiceChatters went egg hunting at the parks this past Sunday. This is the third year large character Easter eggs have been hidden around the parks for guests to spot. Guests may purchase maps for about $5 each. There are separate maps for Disneyland and Disney California Adventure. Each map comes with a sticker sheet and your job is to correctly place the 12 stickers on the map. Once you’ve completed your map you bring it to the redemption location and then receive a small character egg. The kids, Laura (age 6) and Adam (age 10), had a blast finding the eggs in both parks. I’ll give you my account first and then we’ll hear from the kids.

SPOILER ALERT You’ll see the location of some of the eggs below. If you don’t want to spoil the surprise, don’t read any further!

Since we were already in Disneyland for lunch we decided to start our hunt there. We waited in a short line to purchase our map. As a family, we thought the best strategy was to head for the locations we were closest to first. Most of the eggs weren’t too difficult to find. The one that gave us the most trouble was the “Fantasy Faire” egg. While we were waiting to get pictures with the princesses a cast member gave us a clue that we should look near the old Fantasy Fair. Turns out the location should have said “Fantasy Fair Gifts.” We were grateful for the tip.

We made a few detours along the way for character pictures and to color bunny ears by Big Thunder Ranch, but we eventually found all of the eggs and headed back to Main Street USA to redeem our maps. There was no line since they had four cast members working the redemption table. To select your prize they had six giant egg halves on the table. You lifted one up and got the prize hidden underneath. Some of the cast members were mixing them up between each guest and others were not. Laura got a Goofy egg and Adam got a Pluto egg. Then it was off to the other park.

Again we  purchased maps for each kid and went to find the eggs. We’d spent some time in DCA in the morning and had already seen three of the eggs, but the kids insisted we go to each location before we put the stickers onto the maps. Several people in our group commented that the locations on the DCA map were much more specific than those for Disneyland. The egg hunt made for a good excuse to visit Ghiradelli for a second time that day. After completing our maps we had to stand in line to get our prize. There was only one table set up to pick prizes so we did have to wait for a few minutes. Adam got Pluto again and the cast member said there was no trading. He likes Pluto so he was okay with that. Laura got Thumper and was super excited since he’s a rabbit!

Hunting for the eggs took us all over both parks and meant we did a lot of walking. The kids were really tired by the end of it. All in all it was an enjoyable way to spend some time at the park. If you’re there this week you should try it out. The kids are hoping it’ll be back again next year. They decided to write up their own summaries of our hunt and they’re included below.

Egg Hunting at Disneyland and Disney California Adventure

On Sunday, March 29, we went to Disneyland and did the egg hunt. It was so much fun because we got eggs at the end. First, we had to get egg hunt maps at Disneyland. The first egg we found was Mickey. The second egg we found was Minnie. They were both at the Emporium. Then we walked around a lot to find more eggs. The Fantasy Faire egg was the hardest to find. We needed two clues for that one. After we found all the eggs we got a little egg to keep. I got Goofy in Disneyland and Thumper in DCA.

We went to do the California Adventure Egg Hunt after we finished at Disneyland. We had already seen Mickey, Minnie, and White Rabbit eggs in the morning when we were going on rides. We put Mickey and Minnie stickers on the map first. When we found the White Rabbit egg we got to go inside and get a chocolate square. YUM! Me and Julie guessed where the Lightning McQueen and Mater eggs would be and we were right! The best part was finding the last egg and going to Elias and Co. to turn in our maps. I love my Thumper egg and so did Julie. It was the best egg hunt ever!
