There’s no shortage of exciting Disney Cruise Line news recently, and it just keeps getting better. As of this fall, the Disney Dream will unveil all new venues and experiences – Star Wars and Wreck-It Ralph ones included – once the ship reemerges from its October 2015 dry-dock at light-speed.
Star Wars: Millennium Falcon
It was already announced that Star Wars would be joining the Disney Fantasy for select theme cruises, but now the film franchise is joining the Disney Dream more permanently. Disney’s Oceaneer Club, for kids 3-12, is set to blast off into space as a portion is converted into Star Wars: Millennium Falcon.
Disney describes the children’s zone as, “a Force-filled play area inspired by the spacecraft from the legendary saga. Upon entering the spaceship, younglings will join the Rebel Alliance in the epic battle of good versus evil by assisting with the navigation of this powerful space vehicle. Sitting in the cockpit, children can pilot this super-cool spaceship through hyperspace and trigger lightspeed jumps to different locations around the galaxy.”
Creativity also abounds with Star Wars-themed crafts, games and other activities. The Star Wars Rebels Disney XD animated series will also be available to watch on a large screen and interact with at gaming stations.
Plus, a version of the popular Jedi Training Academy from the parks will allow young guests to become Padawan Jedi learners of the lightsaber under the tutelage of a Jedi Master. Then they can test their new skills against Darth Vader himself.
Disney Infinity also joins the Oceaneer Club with a new interactive area based on the video game. Disney explains, “children can experience a whole new way of playing together with exciting virtual experiences and immersive activities. Customized, on-screen adventures will bring to life characters and stories from across The Walt Disney Company.”
All the Disney Infinity character figures will be displayed and available for gameplay. The children that participate will even be able to unlock exclusive Disney Cruise Line content that can be enjoyed while playing Disney Infinity once home.
Disney Infinity will expand into reality with a life-sized base where participants take the place of the character figures. As the interactive floor illuminates in response to large screen gameplay, kids will be “immersed in the Toy Box.”
Vanellope’s Sweets & Treats
Located on Deck 11 between Cabana’s buffet and the pool deck with entrances from both areas, Vanellope’s Sweets & Treats will be a specialty store serving up handmade gelato and ice cream, candies, and other novelty treats.
The new space will be themed to the Sugar Rush race car game from the film Wreck-It Ralph. The cruise line details, “the sweet shop’s décor features nods to the film, including a race track and checkerboard patterned floor, gas pump-style gumball dispensers, Vanellope’s race car and King Candy’s throne.”
Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique
First introduced at sea onboard the Disney Fantasy, now a Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique will bestow the fairy godmother treatment on the Disney Dream. The specialty retail experience will be located on Deck 5 where children are made into princesses and knights and transformed into pirates. For children 3-12, the facility is usually helmed by fairy godmothers-in-training, but on pirate night, the venue becomes The Pirates League for swashbuckling-style makeovers.
Other Family Fun
Coming over from the Disney Fantasy according to Disney will be “The Funnel Puddle family wading pool and the Muppets–themed Midship Detective Agency game known as ‘The Case of the Stolen Show.'”
Also taking inspiration from the features of the Disney Fantasy, the adults-only area located on Deck 13 forward will be upgraded with Satellite Falls, a water feature including a bench-filled splash pool and rain curtain that cleverly circles the base of one of the ship’s communication satellites. Adults will also continue to be able to sun bathe or just relax under the shade here as well.
Additionally for adults, décor enhancements and technology upgrades are on their way to 687 Pub, Pink, the District Lounge and Skyline.
The upgraded Disney Dream will be unveiled on the October 26, 2015 four-night voyage from Port Canaveral to the Bahamas and Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay. The Disney Dream will then continue to set sail on three- and four-night cruises from Port Canaveral to the Bahamas throughout 2015 and into 2016.
