  1. We did good!

    by , 03-24-2010 at 03:30 AM
My tenant Diana might drive me crazy, but the girl is a good worker. Actually she is hardly a girl since we are both in our 60's. When I decided to have my attic remodeled, she was the one person who helped me empty out my attic. She actually had a lot of her own stuff up there, so she was busy finding new places for all of it. However during that process, she was right there with me carrying stuff out to the garbage, an/or finding places to donate it to. Along with that, we were both reorganizing ...

  2. Say what?

    by , 03-23-2010 at 03:09 AM
The carpenter knocked on my door yesterday to talk about the front staircase that will go up to the attic. He wanted to go into the tenant's apartment, but she wasn't home. I didn't want to go in because Diana wasn't home, and I can't control her cats. If they snuck out, well I didn't want to take the chance. I showed him my bedroom instead, since it's exactly the same. The stairwell will cut into the wall and ceiling of her larger bedroom, and he needs to see exactly how they will have to do ...

  3. Less noise, perhaps?

My tenant called me this morning at 7:15 a.m. and was concerned about all the noise that the work crew in my attic was making. Actually, she is more concerned about the house shaking. She's worried about damage to the belongings in her house. Her computer mainly. She lives on the 2nd floor, and she is much closer to the action. She actually asked my permission to say something to the workers. I told her to say what she wanted.

I wanted to say something totally different to her. How ...

  4. A stroke of good luck.

    by , 03-20-2010 at 03:47 PM
Yesterday they finished the roof on my brand new attic dormer. It's hard to believe they can complete a dormer in just a few days. The workers left last night at 7 p.m., and this morning we woke up to find it snowing in Chicago. I would say that was definitely good planning, or a struck of good luck.

Today I was able to walk around inside the back of the attic and the space does feel a little bigger. I can't get a handle about how the finished product is going to look, because ...

  5. The Giving of the Green.

I guess no matter how well you plan, you always have some added costs in a big home improvement project. Mine is no different. I had to write the contractor a check today for additional money to level the attic floor. As I was writing the check, I looked at the calendar, and realized that it is St. Patrick's day.

Some times I wish I could print my own money, and not get into trouble.

The electrician is relocating my electric meters, and also moving the panels ...
