  1. Not so fast

    by , 12-21-2010 at 02:15 PM
Yesterday the contractor arrived at my house, and right away that put up a red flag in my head. I don't usually see the guy unless he wants money. My contract says that I don't owe him anything until the job is finished. It's tricky wording, because I have two payments left. One says job substantially completed, and then the one after that is final completion. I don't figure we are any where near either of those points in this job.

Bottom line is, he wants me to change the payment ...

  2. We have walls!

    by , 12-20-2010 at 05:21 PM
We have walls in my attic. I never thought that the drywall men would complete their work in just two days. However, they did. There are walls. Walls around the bathroom, and a wall around the chimney, and walls everywhere there should be walls. We now have a ceiling as well.

I still wonder when the electric will be finished, and of course the heating and the plumbing are not done either. I never thought I'd be this excited about walls.

    by , 12-20-2010 at 05:29 AM
I smell watermelon. I am sitting here on a cold wintry Monday morning, and I smell watermelon coming up my heating vent. The drywall men arrived at my house bright and early at 7 a.m. I wonder how much drywall they will be able to put up in one day's work? Last Friday when they were here, they spent 1/2 their time carrying that heavy drywall up into the attic, so only a few small areas were completed.

My grandson is surprised at how warm the attic is without their being any heat ...

  4. Tis Not The Season.

    by , 12-14-2010 at 09:24 AM
The temperature today in Chicago dropped down to single digits this morning. Maybe if we are lucky, it might reach 20. The other day it reached the 30's, and when the insulation man reported for work, I was indeed surprised. He did put in a full day's work upstairs, and now my attic is very well insulated.

I thought the next step would be to bring the electrician back, but they are talking drywall instead. I can't imagine workers carrying drywall through my backyard full of snow, ...

  5. Not happening

    by , 12-10-2010 at 04:26 AM
I thought that Kathy and Sean would be spending their Christmas up in a nicely remodeled attic this Christmas, and sadly that is not happening. Work is so slow that my turtle moves faster. I had visions of what it would look like with Kathy and Sean all snuggly cozy warm upstairs with their very first Christmas Tree. Instead they are a wee bit cold in my basment instead. In order to get them warm down there, I have to crank up the heat more than I'm used to.

    Hopefully, the heating ...
