  1. Uneasy Feeling

    by , 05-13-2010 at 05:12 AM
I don't know why I have an uneasy feeling about the plumber beginning his work tomorrow in my attic. Because of the building code, the attic bathroom will not be directly above the other two bathrooms in my building. I'm not quite sure how all those plumbing pipes are going to be connected. Then there's the matter of water being pumped up that high, and well, I have a million questions.

Contractors seem to hire a lot of subcontractors who don't speak very good English, and I couldn't ...

  2. My grandson's one request

    by , 05-02-2010 at 07:15 PM
My grandson's one request in this entire attic project has been that the door to the staircase to the attic does not enter his room. By that he means that if someone comes over they will not need to pass through his room to gain entry into the attic.

In order to accomplish this, Sean has settled for a much smaller room. Today, I tried talking him out of leaving a wall up. I said the wall should come down so he has more space. He said no, because if the wall comes down then the ...

They go straight up into the attic from the same small landing where the door is that goes to my tenant's apartment. I wanted the stairs to take up less room, and cause less loss of floor room in the attic. I wanted what just couldn't be.

I'm not quite sure who will be doing ...

There's a lot of stress involved in hiring a contractor and waiting for things to get done, and people to show up. Stress can do bad things to people, and waiting is no fun. So since I have all this time on my hands waiting, I have turned it into a positive for me. I have begun doing all my craft projects again that I used to be involved in.

I love to crochet, and I also make small items out of plastic canvas. Those are the best. Because as I poke the large threaded needle in and ...

  5. Just Wondering

    by , 04-28-2010 at 04:00 PM
Sometimes I sit here wondering when a contractor tells you that a project is going to take between 60 and 90 days to complete, just how many of those are working days? Now I wish I would have marked the calendar for the days that workers have actually worked. At the beginning there was long days of work. My doorbell rang at 7 a,m, and the noise didn't end until 7 p.m. After about 10 days of that, the work has been very sparce. A few hours here and there.

    So 90 days? Obviously ...
