One for the kids.. We were on our way to Disneyland until I realized that it was a block out day for their passes. So instead we ended up in Downtown Disney watching Spy Kids 4. I'm already over the 3-D thing....Watching films with sunglasses for $5 extra isn't really worth it -especially when you are buying 3 tickets. And the 4-D scratch and sniff....Seriously lame--Especially when the scratch and sniff number is on the screen. I only want 4-D with smells and water if it is coming out of the chair in a theme park -not scratching a card.

The movie itself brought back the Spy Kids franchise with a new batch of kids whose Step mom played by Jessica Alba is actually a spy. Their dad is a lame Spy Hunter on a TV show that has never actually caught a spy and doesn't have a lot of time for them (as played by Joel McHale of The Soup and Community fame). The Super villain is the Timekeeper who is trying to steal time from the world. Needless to say the kids get caught up in the adventure and become the new Spy Kids along with their talking (robot) dog (played by Ricky Gervais). Along the way they learn about their Step mom's being a spy and are joined by the now grown up Spy Kids from the original movies.

The movie was good....The kids will enjoy it and most parents will think it is okay...After all it is aimed at kids and delivers to its audience which is children. The plot is so-so and filled with the cheap cost cutting yet effective special effects that Robert Rodriquez has used for all the Spy Kids movies and Shark Boy and Lava Girl....It creates a cartoonish and unrealistic feel that somehow works for these films. The kids will find it fun...I think it was a step behind the first 3 Spy Kids movies and found the twist too predictable. The movie does have some good themes: mainly that time with your family is precious so don't waste it and that working together with your sibling is better than competing with each other.
