Welcome to this week's Dateline Disneyland update. Between being under the weather, work, and finals week a trip to the Resort this week was pretty much impossible for me. Luckily, a few fine folks at MiceChat have graciously lent their talent and time to put this update together. So, many thanks to them, and now, let's get to it!

EVEN DREAMIER ...?
The DreamClouds that we first showed last week weren't complete. The signage now sports the generic DisneyParks DreamCastle. Funny how the first thing guests now see is a Castle that looks little like the actual Castle at the end of Main Street.

FINISHING THE RIVER BELLE
This last week saw the River Belle Terrace project in overdrive in order to meet its deadline for opening by today, December 14. A more detailed look at the completed restaurant will be available in next week's column.

Work on the new elevator being installed on the side of the former Disney Gallery is still on-going.

it's a small boat
MiceChatter sabres8691 recently spotted what appears to be one of the new boats for "it's a small world." If this is indeed one of the new small world boats, its interesting to see it out already - the extended refurbishment hasn't even begun yet! Oh well, it's fun to see the magic in-progress, but what's up with that color scheme?

You can join in on the discussion regarding these new boats over at this thread on MiceChat:

MIDWAY UNVEILED
More and more of the facade for the upcoming Toy Story Midway Mania attraction in Disney's California Adventure is being uncovered. The large section closest to King Triton's Carrousel of the Sea was recently fully de-tarped. Not all is bright though - look closely and note that many of the overhead string lights on the Pier are burnt out or not working.

The quality and level of detail evident on this building truly blows everything on Paradise Pier (and most of DCA for that matter) out of the water.

GRAND CALIFORNIAN EXPANSION
Progress can be seen in the Grand Californian Hotel expansion pit.

What was just a big hole before is now becoming the groundwork for a new Hotel wing.

CROWDS TAKE THEIR TOLL
Evidence of the huge winter crowds can be found in high-traffic areas of the park such as Space Mountain.

It's just a shame that much of the damage at Space isn't simply normal wear-and-tear - it's vandalism caused by bored guests waiting in the queue. When will people learn it's not okay to destroy property like this?

Hopefully Disney can get this fixed up soon.

HOTEL HOLDAYS
And finally, we get around to seeing the Disneyland Hotel and the Paradise Pier Hotel's Christmas decorations.

The Disneyland Hotel is dressed in garlands and traditional Christmas ornaments

The Fantasia Shop, the Disneyland Hotel's gift shop has its own Christmas tree, too, topped with a Sorcerer Mickey hat

The Disneyland Hotel also offers a small, but nicely themed, "Meet Santa" photo op near Goofy's Kitchen:

Goofy's Kitchen also has its own tree:

Each hotel tower features its own tree as well. Here is the Wonder Tower's Christmas tree:

And finally, over at the Paradise Pier Hotel, they have a sun-topped tree in their lobby:

Alright, that's all for this week. Once again many thanks to the MiceChatters who so graciously lent their time, effort, and talent to help put this week's column together: Fishbulb, localdsnyfan, and of course David "Darkbeer" Michael. All of Darkbeer's photos that were featured here and (many, many) more can be found at his amazing gallery at: darkbeer.smugmug.com.

Alright, thanks for reading. See you all next week!

Great shots Andy... it's nice to see that something is getting started over at the GCH.

I think I already miss the look of the "old" boats at IASW

Get better soon and get back to the Parks!!

    As always, a great update.

The state of the Space Mountain queue/exit area is just sad. Is it just a case of not seeing what's going on? Why does it seem that the Space queue only has this problem?

I think it's not just Space's queue that gets this sort of maltreatment, but the fact that guests are walking past plain, white walls (as opposed to textured rock work like Splash, Big Thunder and Indy's queues) that make the perfect surface that graffiti artists are looking for.

Poor airlock 1. It's obvious something different needs to be done this time to fix you properly.

all wear and tear will be fixed when people are done ripping up the park after the new year and opening times are much later, more time can be taken versus having to deal with early entries and long extended hours.

note that graffiti is cleaned when it's spotted/notified

Graffiti "artists"... ? Where is this tacit acceptance of vandalism coming from?

This mentality, which seems to be gaining currency, is really disturbing to me.
