There's a lot to see this week, but first many thanks to David "Darkbeer" Michael for help out with many of his great shots in this week's update. Anyway, let's get to it!
WELCOME TO DISNEYLAND
The Harbor Blvd. entrance is closed while the electrical work progresses for the California Adventure and Grand Californian expansion.
Parking prices have gone up a dollar and are now $12.
One of the billboards at the Mickey and Friends tram stop is getting some work done.
"I'M (FINALLY) GOING TO DISNEYLAND!"
Over three months after winning Super Bowl XLII, MPV Eli Manning finally made it to Disneyland on Wednesday, May 7.
Darkbeer has loads more photos of Eli's visit in his Smugmug gallery: Disneyland Resort/Eli Manning - 5/7/08
FUTURE WORLD, LIGHT SABERS, AND WATERFALLS
The Future Choice Stations at Siemens' Project Tomorrow exhibit in Innoventions is finally open. The interactive touch-screens are essentially the same on-board feature that Epcot's Spaceship Earth has.
There has been some criticism about the feature on Spaceship Earth, but the attraction works well in the Siemens exhibit in Innoventions, and its actually a pretty fun diversion for Innoventions visitors, and if nobody is waiting for your Future Choice Station, then its fun to run through the questionnaire a couple times and see what your future in home, leisure, sports, or work is.
Beware: your photo will be taken.
At the end of the the survey, you can e-mail yourself a postcard from your future
Normally, your photo will appear on one of the characters' faces.
If you're with someone, their face will replace the other character's face.
A copy of the Buzz Lightyear facade mural has been added behind the Segway Experience area.
Over in the Star Trader store, a new build-your-own Lightsaber display has been added.
A Cast Member will help you assemble your lightsaber.
Over at the Submarine Voyage, there is some heavy work going on at the exit waterfall.
Because of this, the entrance waterfall has been reduced to a trickle, and appears to be being fed by some water hoses.
The "it's a small world" facade is completely covered in tarps now.
The Club 33 refurbishment is complete
Handrail repainting in the Hub
And the restrooms behind Carnation Cafe on Main Street are closed for refurbishment.
The Sunshine Plaza fountain handrail replacement is coming along...
The Disney Animation lobby is once again showing its normal animation loop and the couches have returned.
The three new outdoor vending structures across from the Midway Mercantile are scheduled to open Friday, May 9. The walls around Midway Mercantile and the shop should be open to guests today as well.
The new hot dog and turkey leg stand on the Pier has a name now.
I find the color scheme a bit odd. The green isn't found anywhere else on the new Midway Mania buildings on the Pier.
The new structure closer to the Sun Wheel will remain behind walls for a bit longer while it gets completed.
Last weekend marked the conclusion of this year's Food and Wine Festival. A special artist signing with artists including Dave Avanzino and Noah took place in the "Flower Garden."
Dave Avanzino had a one-of-a-kind Food and Wine shadowbox on display.
A High School Musical special was also filming
A new Harmony Kingdom piece is out, celebrating Mickey's 80th.
And a lot of new women's merch is hitting the shelves...
The "I'm with..." shirts cost $28 each.
New Earth-friendly 100% organic shirts are available. They run $32.
And some new zip joggers as well.
Well, that's it for this week. Thanks for reading, and thanks again to David Michael for his always-outstanding shots. Many more of his photos from the past week can be seen in his smugmug gallery - darkbeer.smugmug.com > Disneyland Resort/Eli Manning - 5/7/08
Until next time - see you at the parks!
