Hello again, and welcome to the November 7 edition of Dateline Disneyland. I'd like to thank David "Darkbeer" Michael again this week for his excellent photos.

Also, don't forget that you can now click on any image with the a special Project Tracker watermark and be taken directly to the photo's respective Project Tracker thread for the latest information on any current project at the parks.

WELCOME TO DISNEYLAND!
HalloweenTime has now completely disappeared from the parks.

New park maps feature Haunted Mansion Holiday and Toy Story Midway Mania in the break between Halloween and the holidays.

No more Mickey pumpkin. This spot will turn into Christmas Tree Point beginning November 21 when the holidays officially start at the Disneyland Resort. You can get a complete run-down of the holiday offerings this year at Disneyland's newly-launched 2008 holiday special event web site: Disneyland.com/Holidays.

No more jack-o-lanterns along Main Street. Disney recently announced that Main Street would be getting the snow treatment this year, complimenting Sleeping Beauty's Winter Castle.

The castle is almost completely covered in snow now...

Icicles are also starting to be added to the Castle. Unfortunately, they are still the same tacky icicles that were used last year. Couldn't they have come up with a better solution for them?

FANTASYLAND UPDATE
The construction walls at Sleeping Beauty Castle have expanded out, now completely blocking off the walkway between Fantasyland and Carnation Gardens.

You can still get through this way, however, you'll just have to walk through the nearby gift shop.

"it's a small world" is getting covered in Christmas lights in preparation for not only its grand re-opening, but also, its annual holiday overlay.

The attraction is aiming for a November 21 re-opening.

JUST A DREAM AWAY
The next phase of Paradise Pier's massive makeover and enhancement is now underway. Paradise Bay is being drained in preparation for the World of Color show and Sun Wheel makeover project.

Construction walls around the Sun Wheel announce its new name and feature images of the character faces which will adorn the ferris wheel's cabins.

The Games of the Boardwalk are now closed and work is underway to convert them to their new Disney character-based carnival games.

THIS AND THAT
Downtown Disney's World of Disney store has their holiday merchandise display up and ready for shoppers.

New California Adventure merchandise already seems to be reflecting the Paradise Pier changes...

Big Thunder Ranch is being transformed into Santa's Reindeer Roundup.

New Orleans Square glows at night with all of its Christmas lights...

Well, that should wrap it up for this week. Thanks once again to David for all of his great photos. Like always, you can check out many more of his photos at his smugmug photo gallery at darkbeer.smugmug.com

At the risk of sounding cliche, awesome update! I'm incredibly excited for the DCA changes! Hopefully they live up to expectations. Great pictures as usual! Its "columns" like this one that got me hooked on MicaAge/MiceChat.

    Great Dateline this week Andy!
I love the construction walls at DCA. It is exciting that they are integrating the theming changes into the walls.
I'm looking forward to an awesome holiday season at DLR!

At least the snow on Sleeping Beauty Castle looks better than the crappy lights on Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom.

Great update! The theming of the construction walls around DCA is exciting. Also, I wonder why the construction walls around Sleeping Beauty's Castle have expanded? More stuff, or just for safety? Hmm...

The construction walls for the Paradise Pier changes look great on their own. I like the shirts. They sport the retro designs of Mickey's group and the logo looks good.

the icicles seem to be a controversial subject. i think the method of using plastic spiral ribbon shapes looks a little tacky, personally, and would rather see realistic-looking plastic icicles filled with the lights, though i suppose it could be worse. i DON'T expect them to change it anytime soon, however, because they're already bought and paid for and (i'm assuming) custom built. it would almost be a waste of money to replace them so soon since they're not THAT bad... i think a better priority to improve the quality is perfecting the technology (i saw a lot of show glitches last year with the lights) and extending to show to include the whole castle, not just the front side. perhaps in a few more years we'll see more realistic looking icicles that don't just look like christmas lights with ribbon spirals? then they could look good in the daylight too!

    good update

You should go to City Hall and file a complaint.

    No sarcasm intended.

For all Disney knows, everyone loves the icicles unless somebody says something.

Then maybe next year they'll try something new.

But in the present, let's be thankful that there are actually lights on the castle now (as apposed to two years ago)
