Weekend Update goes aquatical this week with a bicoastal report from the Sea World parks, courtesy of SummerInFL and CaptPhoebus. Then TDLFAN shares a whimsical look at the clocks of Tokyo Disneyland. Last week I asked Ian Parkinson where he was taking us next. His answer? A Venice vacation, of course. This time around Ian's report also includes photos by Richard Williams

Memorial Day Weekend has been traditionally the big "Theme/Amusement" Parks kick-off weekend. Well, this year, not too many new rides, and much of the new entertainment starts in a few weeks.
But we will look at some of the new offerings, plus a few other fun things to do in the upcoming few days. Last chance to sign up for Gumball Rally 3.
MiceChat will be hosting the third version of the Gumball Rally a week from Saturday, May 30th.
Fancy new restrooms opened in Disney's California Adventure this week, as the park gears up to demolish restrooms in the same area to make room for the upcoiming Little Mermaid dark ride. Nearby, construction continues on the big new World of Color night show in Paradise Bay. Over in Disneyland, the Harbour Galley quick service dining location is finally getting a new menu and should reopen by the end of the month, and work continues on the Astro Orbitor and Cosmic Waves projects in Tomorrowland.

Wow, Disney really got it.
This week, to the delight of mousegeeks everywhere (well, in selected markets anyway), Disney's pay-for-play fan community D23 announced its first summer lineup of events, and it's a knockout.
From Disney's press release:
May 28 - D23 “Up All Night” at Hollywood’s El Capitan Theatre (FREE)
(Los Angeles, CA) -- Theatergoers across the country will soon meet the unlikely duo of 78-year-old Carl Fredricksen and 8-year-old
I was just thinking of how much I miss the hand embroidery on the mouse ears at Disneyland. One of those small touches that really made things magical.
It's probably because I'm a crafter myself, so I appreciate the skill and artistry that it took to make these! Look at how beautiful the scroll work is! *sigh* We got these at the preview day on May 4, 2005, before Disneyland unveiled it's 50th anniversary
