Deep Thoughts (and whatnot)

Apathy: It's not you, it's me.

The other day at work, I went into the lounge and someone asked me how my day was going and how my kids were doing. I said that I wasn't sure, the kids were really just "apathetic" that morning and just couldn't pull it together for whatever reason.

As soon as the word "apathetic" left my lips, I realized I was describing myself.

I was distracted, my day was not planned out well, I had 2 meetings to go to after school, I had homework to do for my own class... I was apathetic and the kids picked up on it and reflected it back to me.

Well, that's not good! Having that lightbulb moment totally turned my day around, and thankfully it was early enough to make a difference. I guess the moral of the story is that when you don't get back what you want from someone, you should check yourself to see what you are putting out there in the first place. It might just be you!

"They" call me that? Who are "they", I wonder.

So today, I stayed late at work to make sure that the next week is all planned out, my desk is clean, my emails are cleared, and most importantly, my head is focused on what needs to happen to get through the end of the month. This is a much better place to be. I'm giving tomorrow over to working on my paper and doing research and Sunday for grading papers and prepping extra stuff for the week for work.

As my father in law used to say, "Proper prior planning prevents piss-poor performance."

To update, I had a really awesome week at work. I'm really looking forward to this next week though, because it's only a 3-day school week for the kids. We have staff development on Thur/Fri, and even though I have to go sit in meetings all day long, it sounds like a fantastic break to me!
