Well I'm back in SoCal again after a fantastic eleven days in Florida and we return to our regularly scheduled format. Thanks for all the comments on our "Oddlando" feature. I think most of you understood the tongue in cheek nature of my commentary. I wouldn't have traveled to Orlando twelve times in the last four years if I didn't love that area so much! By the way, I still have one more fun "Oddlando" segment to share with you in an upcoming Weekend Update.

This week we have another Adriatic Adventure segment from Ian Parkinson, Mark Gonzalez treats us to a unique look at Adventureland in Disneyland, sir clinksalot shows us the Field Museum in Chicago, and SummerIn FL shares her "world" view. Finally, TDLFAN weighs in with a photo heavy look at the Tokyo Disney Resort.

First up is the latest installment of Ian Parkinson's Adriatic Adventure. This week we tour Korcula, Croatia.

Korcula, Croatia

The island of Korcula is one of the greenest islands in the Adriatic sea. It is also one of the most popular travel destinations in this part of Croatia. Like most of the Croatian islands, the Greeks first settled Korcula. The island itself is rich in art and culture, as well as beautiful nature such as numerous tiny and secluded beaches and bays, small and uninhabited islands and breathtaking views. The main town on the island is also named Korcula. It is a typical medieval walled Dalmatian city, with its round defensive towers and cluster of red-roofed houses.

Marco Polo (1254 - 1324) the famous world-traveller and writer, as well as a Venetian merchant, is reputed to have been born in Korcula. In the old town of Korcula where his supposed house of birth is located. It will shortly be turned into a Museum of Marco Polo
Besides Marco Polo, Korcula has a long art and cultural tradition, including museums, galleries and festivals.

Korcula has a lot to offer to a visitor to see and learn - its art and history, its culture, traditional crafts and skills of stone masonry and shipbuilding, sword dances, music, writings as well as its most famous inhabitant Marco Polo and his heritage, besides all the natural beauties, views and beaches.

Next up is another photo tour from the very talented Mark Gonzalez. Don't forget to check out Mark's flickr album.

Adventureland in Disneyland
Anaheim, Californa

Here are some more photos from the Clinksalot family's trip to Chicago.

The Field Museum
Chicago, Illinois

The Field Museum was incorporated in the State of Illinois on September 16, 1893 as the Columbian Museum of Chicago with its purpose the "accumulation and dissemination of knowledge, and the preservation and exhibition of objects illustrating art, archaeology, science and history." In 1905, the Museum's name was changed to Field Museum of Natural History to honor the Museum's first major benefactor, Marshall Field, and to better reflect its focus on the natural sciences. In 1921 the Museum moved from its original location in Jackson Park to its present site on Chicago Park District property near downtown where it is part of a lakefront Museum Campus that includes the John G. Shedd Aquarium and the Adler Planetarium. These three institutions are regarded as among the finest of their kind in the world and together attract more visits annually than any comparable site in Chicago.

Sue - the most complete T-Rex fossill in the world

There were many maps and displays of ancient cities.

It was great fun spending some time at Walt Disney World this past week with SummerInFL. What follows are some photos that she submitted right before I left on my trip. Enjoy this trip around the "world".

What exactly is in Tokyo's Cinderella Castle on the second (third?) floor where Florida's Royal Table is? You can see the windows in the above update? Is this where the Mystery Tour used to be? What's there now?

There is nothing to do for guests in TDL's Cinderella Castle as of now. Only the gift shop in the first floor remains opened to guests. The Mystery castle tour was about 4 stories.. including the basement level, first floor and eventually, an elevator trip took guests to the same level where the MK's Royal Table is at, for the grand finale of the mystery tour.
Again... only the gift shop on the first floor is opened to guests. There is nothing else opened for guests at the castle.

    They are awesome.

And Vasooki? There is no construction at the Country Bears at TDL. Currently they are playing "Summer Vacation" and will close shortly to perform the re-do to the Xmas show.
