Take a look with us at an attraction near and dear to the heart of Walt Disney himself, Carousel of Progress. First presented at the 1964 New York World's Fair, Carousel of Progress was a smash success and one of the most popular attractions at the Fair. Walt embraced an optimistic view of humanity and of the future, both present in Carousel of Progress. But progress itself forced the Carousel out of Disneyland in 1973 and to Disney World, where it remains (occasionally in temporary status) to this day. Join us for a look back at this classic attraction complete with photos and video. It's still a great big beautiful tomorrow!

Marc Davis was an iconic Disney Imagineer responsible for many favorite attractions from Haunted Mansion to America Sings. He had a knack for bringing out the comic relief in any subject or attraction. Pirates of the Caribbean may have its share frightening elements, but it is Marc Davis' sometimes silly characters and gags which keep the tone fun and approachable and make it a timeless classic. Many of his projects had a broad canvas and large scale. But his masterpiece may never have been built. For the then new Walt Disney World, Marc proposed a Pirates of the Caribbean type of attraction called Western River Expedition. It would have been an epic attraction with classic Marc Davis characters and gags set in and around a western town. While Disney World eventually passed up Western River to build the better known Pirates of the Caribbean, the attraction almost got built in another park in the early 1990's. Join us for a rare look at a class attraction which never got built but which lingers in the minds of Disney fans and Imagineers.

The Monsanto House of the Future - or "All plastic house" - became a Disneyland attraction in 1957. It supposedly represented the future of 1986. Built of plastics, a revolutionary material at that time, the four wing"ultra-modern" House of the Future was on display from 1957 to 1967 at the entrance of Tomorrowland. The House featured the latest in furniture and appliances along with intercoms and other gadgets that were not common in 1957 - for instance, it featured household appliances such as microwave ovens, which were not yet ready for consumer use. Join Alain Littaye, of the Disney and More Blog, for this look back in time.

As it prepares to transform vast sections into a Harry Potter Land, we take a look back at original concept art for Universal's Islands of Adventure. Universal's Islands of Adventure park, affectionately known as IoA, was one of the first parks to come close to Disney standard theme park entertainment. And there is a good reason for that, as many of the Imagineers laid off by Disney were hired by Universal to build IOA. And their Disney brand of creativity shows through. Let's take a look back at the concepts for these lands of adventure and particularly the areas which will disappear forever when Harry Potter takes over.

The year was 1941 and the world was slipping further into war. Amid this tumultuous backdrop, Walt Disney and a hand-picked group of artists and filmmakers (later known as “El Grupo”) took an important trip to South America at the behest of the U.S. Government. The Walt Disney Family Foundation and Walt Disney Pictures will release the new documentary, "Walt and El Grupo," on September 11, 2009. Alain Littaye takes us on an early look.
