Monday Theme Park Update: Disneyland and Beyond

Categories: Monday In The Parks

Today's Monday in the Parks theme park update reveals recent changes to the Disneyland Resort as well as new attraction announcements at Universal Studios and Six Flags Magic Mountain. First up California Adventure, where David "Darkbeer" Michael details the launch of the High School Musical 3 rolling stage show.  Then off to Disneyland for a description of the already very popular Pixie Hollow meet and greet.  Children of all ages are in for a treat with the most highly themed of the Disney meet and greet locations.  You'll be shrunken down to the size of a fairy so you can interact with Tinker Bell and her fairy friends. But there is even bigger news this week from other local parks.  Six Flags Magic Mountain has announced "Terminator: The Coaster" which promises to "combine innovative thrill ride technology with the signature science fiction punch of the Terminator brand."  The planned ride will be a 2,850 ft long wooden roller coaster. And over at Universal Studios Hollywood, comes the announcement of what sounds like a blockbuster new attraction designed to raise the bar on theme park attractions.  The new "Transformers" ride will open in 2011 at both the Hollywood and Singapore parks and will employ "3D-HD media, mega special effects and stunning robotics with a ride system that will transform perceptions of theme park experiences." A big week for Southern California theme parks. Monday In The Parks Changes At The Disneyland Resort

Categories: Disneyland, Monday In The Parks, So. Cal. Attractions

A slew of small attractions are headed to the Disneyland Resort, they are scheduled to begin arriving this month and will add entertainment, characters, the return of a long closed attraction, and a peak at the future. High School Musical 3 rolling performance stage will be coming to the Disneyland Resort on October 24th.  It replaces the High School Musical 1 and 2 version of the same show at California Adventure. Pixie Hollow is set for an October 28th opening, but much construction and landscaping is left to be done to meet this date. The new Disney's California Adventure (DCA) Preview Center, officially called the Walt Disney Imagineering Blue Sky Cellar, will open in the former spot of the Seasons of the Vine in DCA on October 20th. Sleeping Beauty Castle Walk-through has a flexible "Mid-December" opening date.  The new version of the Castle Walk-through will feature a return to the original look of the attraction using modern Imagineering technology to enhance the effects. Small World Holiday returns on November 21st after a long closure.  The beloved attraction has been the subject of news and speculation as the attraction's flume and boats needed to be rebuilt to handle the heavier nature of today's park guests.  It is also rumored (by Al Lutz of MiceAge.com [1]) "the small world refurbishment project was driven by a clearly stated desire to allow today's lower riding boats to travel easier through the ride. The old flume from the World's Fair is being gutted, and a new flume conveniently designed to be one inch deeper will contain a new fleet of purposely lighter boats that ride up to an inch higher in the water. Those extra two inches of clearance will allow for several hundred more pounds of weight in each boat, keeping the churro loving tourists of today sailing through the ride just as easily as their lighter predecessors did back in the 1960's." There are lots of additional changes and operational updates to report today, including Miley's Sweet 16 birthday party.  Read the entire Monday in the Parks weekly update of News and Tips for the attractions in Southern California HERE [2] [1] http://miceage.micechat.com/allutz/al022608a.htm [2] http://micechat.com/forums/blogs/monday-in-the-parks/761-10-6-08-monday-parks-news-photos-tips.html

Monday In The Parks: Southern California Theme Park Rumor Roundup

Categories: Disneyland, Monday In The Parks, So. Cal. Attractions

David's Chargers may have lost the big game, but we all win with his comprehensive update of Disney and theme park news from around Southern California. This week, the High School Musical 2 and Golden Dreams shows both had their last public performances at Disney's California Adventure.  A new version of High School Musical will soon debut.  Golden Dreams will become the location of a much hyped Little Mermaid ride, which is rumored to have a huge budget and a lot of attention from key Imagineers. The good folks at Amusement Today [1] have released their list of the top Theme Parks in the world.  Many may not agree with the choice of Cedar Point, a lightly themed coaster park, as the number one choice.  Also surprising is Disneyland in the number 4 spot with only 6.5% of the vote. 1. Cedar Point - 26% 2. Busch Gardens Europe - 16% 3. Knoebels - 7% 4. Disneyland - 6.5% 5 (tie). Universal Islands of Adventure - 6% 5 (tie). Pleasure Beach Blackpool - 6% As always, there is lots of news and information in David "Darkbeer" Michael's weekly theme park updates.  Be sure to read the entire Monday in the Parks Theme Parks news update HERE [2].
