A 5.8 magnitude earthquake located near Chino Hills struck at 11:45 AM today and resulted in the evacuation of all attractions at the Disneyland Resort. This is standard operating procedure for Disneyland, and it is unknown when the attractions will reopen.

Updated:
This is an updated map taken at 2:11 PM on July 29th. The main quake is the big blue box. The smaller boxes in red and blue were aftershocks. Note the small red box in the lower left of the bigger blue box. That one is about 4 miles from Anaheim.

As of the evening of July 29th most rides had reopened at Disneyland.

A discussion began in the Disneyland Forum of MiceChat immediately following the quake. We recommend that you join in the discussion if you have additional information to add or are looking for news about the quake:

Pretty good shake, but I’d imagine most attractions would be back up sooner rather than later. Although I haven’t felt any aftershocks yet, that could complicate things if they are large enough. Does anyone know if they open attractions one at a time after something like this, or whether they open them park wide after the all clear? Just wondering…

It is usually a case by case basis. They have to inspect each and every ride, and that can take a lot of time.

  3. There was just a 1.6 at 1:04 in Placentia (about 4 miles from Disneyland). So I’m guessing they might wait a bit longer to open some of the rides.
