Thumbs up Re: 4/7: Summer Daze and Nights

A most excellent update! Thanks again, Al!

Could you imagine coming home and telling your husband or wife that you've been demoted? Ouch! Still would beat losing your job though, but I'm not sure a "demoted" exec. would shower enthusiasm down the ranks. I'm guessing Jay R. doesn't believe in karma.

I still can't believe they are charging $36 for each adult BBQ meal and 23 for each kid. How incredibly clueless can they get!? Especially during a recession. Dramatically dropping prices didn't make the Apple's I-phone less popular. The BBQ price should be lowered to $24 or $22 for adults and $18 for kids. (That's minus 12-14 and minus 5 respectively. Kids do get all that neat stuff.)

I loved the old ad for Disneyland at night--makes me hope we can time travel in heaven!

Great article always look forward to reading your updates.
Sad about the new dually boats for Peter Pan but happy regarding the refresh. It is looking pretty tired.
Celebrate Street Party running at night after the POD that would be a magical memorable fantastic practically perfect believe in dreams come true event, imagine that!
Btw.... Emancipating Abe was the best April Fools joke around. I had everyone in my family believing it to be true!

Now that's something I'd pay $35 to have on a T-shirt!!

I don't know what's funnier, the April Fool's joke or the fact that the Disney honchos have a reputation that validates it!

Al, just a quick note that I like the shorter but more often postings as compared to the lengthy but infrequent ones. In the end, I think you are providing more or more detailed info this way.

thanks,

Re: 4/7: Summer Daze and Nights

Thanks Al for this week's update.

The news about drafting plans for Parade of Dreams to possibly return in the Summer AND run concurrently with Celebrate is good news indeed. While I do love Celebrate, it would be my dream scenario to see both POD and Celebrate on the Entertainment schedule. This rumor (the feasibility study) has been floating around since February, so it's nice to hear Al confirm it with his sources. I hope they come to the right conclusion and decide to bring POD back, but keep Celebrate too!

The saddest news in the update for me was to hear of the upcoming closure of Corn Dog Castle in DCA. Although, I just read that paragraph again, and it sounds like it's only a temporary closure to re-theme the structure to a Victorian-era style. Whew! I'd certainly miss it if it was a permanent closure.

In many instances around the Resort a higher ranking manager with more tenure and/or stronger documented performance was allowed to stay, but was demoted down to a job or title they had held previously, while that lower ranking manager they replaced was then shown the door. In short, in many areas around the Resort a junior manager was laid off while a more senior manager took their slot with a demotion. The senior manager's old position has since been eliminated as part of the streamlining process that is at the root of these layoffs, and that old position is then counted as "unfilled."
If this is true at a wide scale.. unfortunately this really means 'more of the same' and less true change in the organization If it was 'protect your buddy' actions.. then sure the division saves some $$ - but doesn't fundamentally fix the broken pieces. Here's hope it's enough to refocus people on what's important.

I can't believe we made it through a full Al update without a backhanded slam at Orlando for no reason. Good read Al.

Re: 4/7: Summer Daze and Nights

Thanks for the update, Al. Always great to hear the latest DL Resort rumblings.

It would be fantastic if POD played in the afternoon (when it looks best) while Celebrate played at night (when it looks best). Sounds like a win-win, then with the refurbed Fantasmic!, refurbed Electrical Parade, and the new Magical! show there's plenty of entertainment to go around.

Oh I know! The best corn dogs I've had. That area really needs a re-theme, though. Along with the Dinosaur Jack's sunglasses shack. So I think the short-term closure will definitely be for the better. But from reading that paragraph again it seems to me that perhaps in the next decade if that area is expanded it is possible that Corn Dog Castle and Route 66 might be gone permanently. Perhaps I'm reading too much into it.

An overpriced eatery and an overhyped parade.. when will DL finally get a new attraction? Crumbs is all we get.
