Re: 8/25: The Reluctant Dragon

I love how they're waiting for the Santa Ana Winds to come this fall in order to test the WOC mist screens, when they might not even come at all.

This summer has been nowhere near as hot as the other recent summers. I am sure that the developing El Nino condition might be causing this. And maybe this might cause the upcoming Santa Ana Wind season to be light or near non-existant. Or maybe it will be worse. Who knows.

But what if we don't get strong winds this year? Will that cause a delay in the opening for WOC?

My god, what an update. The dragon is ready? Star Wars 2 Confirmation!? Hat-Box Ghost!!? I'm surprised MiceChat isn't exploding with excitement.

Hmm, I think you might seriously have started something here, Quacky. I wouldn't be surprised if your letter actually made it to the right people.

Hey, now I want to write something!

If they intended to use the wave machine again, won't the water splash and spill into that equipment box right next the jetty along Screamin'?

This is one of the most exciting MiceAge updates in a long time.

Tinker Bell dark ride in Motor Boat Cruise area - nice but I always wished they would put an E ticket Tomorrowland dark ride in that spot, something like a giant Star Wars 'universe' attraction. Volunteer work for free admission - now that's a great idea!
I imagine the mistakes with the dragon were in how she was programmed. If they programmed the dragon to do things she wasn't designed to do...

Great update, Al!

I'm worried that Space Mountain Ghost Galaxy will be Rockin' Space Mountain 2. I didn't care for Rockin' at all.

Can't wait to see if Murphy makes an appearance soon.

it's classy and it helps out. and hopefully cuts down on people wanting to get free tickets since the lazy ones wont commit the hours

One, the Birthdays:

Charity work to get that free ticket is fine - except for those of us with birthdays in January who might only have weeks to get the paperwork together. They need to get the word out /soon/ for it to be effective.

Two, Mary Niven's Language Paradox:

She will just have to make a compromise, and fall back on the Style Manuals - You have to use the full name "Disney's California Adventure" the first time it comes up in the letter, or conversation, or presentation. But when it pops up twice or more in the same paragraph or discussion you are allowed to use the acronym DCA.

New conversation, reset the timer. If you use the acronym DCA instead of the full name as the first horse out the gate, go over to the Cuss Jar and put in a quarter.

Otherwise you run the risk of having your lips break or your fingers fall off. There's a REASON why people with tongue-twister names normally allow and approve of (usually encourage) people using a one-syllable nickname. You are getting paid by the hour...

Same thing should apply for commercials and advertising media - Spell it out the first time, then you are allowed to use the acronym for the rest of the spot. People will figure it out.

Three: Got a picture of Mary Niven? Seems like I need to explain this to her...

I love these updates. I'm most excited about the upgrades planned for the Rivers of America. It will definately liven up the sleepy journey that is the Mark Twain.

I am glad they went with the creepy music on Space Mountain. Finally we can get a little more adult entertainment for a change similar to Haunted Mansion.

Al hasn't said that the ticket for charity will be free on your birthday. I don't think that it will; I expect that the number of charity hours will be a little high.
This would allow a whole family to volunteer together and then take a free day at Disneyland together. But I'll bet there ARE restrictions on what days it can be used.

That really stood out as a highlight to me as well. It is time the river got a little TLC. Thank god for Tony Baxter!

Thanks for the update, Al. Glad to see the Motorboat Cruise lagoon will hopefully put to some use, even if it does feature cartoon fairies.

Re: 8/25: The Reluctant Dragon

Sometimes, Al, you're just irritating in your insistence that there's got to be something WRONG and NEGATIVE about Disney. I mean, I get what you're doing -- but at least try to get the facts right. The tickets for Disney employees are not "discounted" tickets. They're free tickets, which is intended as a benefit to employees, a special offer to them to enjoy the event. They're not being used to prop up sales, they've been available for about six weeks I think. It's a great way for employees to see the entire scope of Disney and share it with friends and family. It's not about low ticket sales. Sometimes you just have to wonder where Al gets his speculation.....
