Re: 9/15: Laughing EO Off

Reading Al's column only confirmed a few thoughts I was having about the expo:

As a D23 member, I am really, really annoyed that we weren't offered any $5 (or higher) discount tickets. We've already paid through the nose to join this thing, gotten very little for our money...the least they could have done when sales were weak was to offer us the chance to buy reduced price tickets.

Re: 9/15: Laughing EO Off

I agree totally with the bad judgement in calling the expo D23. I spoke with my friends and we all thought attendees would have to be D23 members.

Laugh Floor isn't all too bad. OK it is bad, but it's main problem is the fact it needs to be family friendly. My kids actually liked it, but they're 5 years old.

Re: 9/15: Laughing EO Off

Monster's Inc Laugh Floor in TL?!?!?!?

What the crap, man? How does this help Tomorrowland at all? It's not even the correct theme!! I hope someone at TDA gets the hint on this one... NO!!

If they can't come up with a decent show after EO finishes it's run, I'd rather have an empty theater until they do. That or get the PeopleMover back up and running... that ride can absorb more guests that HISTA ever could.

Expo Thoughts
First, a few suggestions...
  • Change the name from the D23 Expo to DisneyExpo - too many people were thinking only D23 members could go.
  • Shorten the event from four days to two, and schedule it every other year. Disney doesn't have that many future projects in the pipeline to show off every single year.
  • Alternate between Anaheim and Orlando.
  • Give more advance notice so visitors can better plan their trips.

I like the idea of alternating between Anaheim and Orlando. But I still think that the D23 Expo should still be on an annual basis. It would be very ridiculous of Disney to put an end to these Expos just because the first one had low attendance. Expos need a few years in order to truly thrive. And I do agree that the prices were ridiculous. I'm not a D23 member because the membership fees are just insane and the fact that D23 members didn't get much investment from attending the expo is madness. I am willing to join D23 in a year or two if they make the membership worth blowing $75 annually but I just dont see it yet.

Re: 9/15: Laughing EO Off

>>TDA was in a frenzy to bus over as many Anaheim employees as they could find on Thursday morning to try and fill in the few thousand empty seats in the big Anaheim Arena for Bob Iger's kickoff presentation, and it worked wonderfully to help fill in the gaps. (Four hours of pay, free admission and lunch didn't hurt ether.) <<

Now wait a sec re that last sentence. The employee's "invited" over to the Expo were most likely all salaried. So, I'm not sure if they were offered anything schwanky for lunch. But pay / admission / time away from their desk and duties... are pretty much all covered. ;-)

maybe this is WDI insider ways of ensuring MILF doesn't happen ever. Leak it - see the uproar... and hope your competing project looks like a much better idea now

Re: 9/15: Laughing EO Off

Shoot. Forgot to mention comments on the other topics.

I wish I'd attended the expo. If nothing else than the Imagineer stuff I'm hearing about. I love that 'how does it work' and ask alot of questions, stuff. :-D
Yes, it should be annual and yes the name should just be Disney rather than D23.
As for Tommorrowland? What that area needs is a lot more stuffs... and it needs to be tommorrow/future/tech focused stuff. No more Pixar, stage shows, interactive movies, cartoon-y jazz.

Re: 9/15: Laughing EO Off

The idea of Laugh Floor being introduced to Tomorrowland scares me deeply. I hate to join the "WILT!" bandwagon, but putting Laugh Floor in our Tomorrowland would be an even bigger mistake than leaving it empty.

I sure hope that, should Laugh Floor be implemented (yuck), it would only be a temporary thing and would be removed whenever New Tomorrowland gets underway... if it does.

I would rather have EO be permanent than bring MILF.

I agree 100% ....... WOW this is one of the worst ideas I have heard in a long time. Now I have to say that I have not seen the show, but I have not seen one really good or strong positive review for it.

Re: 9/15: Laughing EO Off

So, people are going to BELIEVE Al Lutz still?

Come on, Al, you "reported" on rumors that were far from confirmed, turned them into an insistent sort of "reality" and now are expressing bemusement when they turn out to be .......FALSE! No one except YOU ever said Captain EO was coming back.

I used to look forward to Al's updates and now I seriously doubt the validity of pretty much anything he says.
